10、 -,-,- SAE ARP1987/2 - 2 - 3.COMPOSITION OF NEW TITLES: Each new title shall consist of a basic name followed by a series of basic name modifiers. The basic name consists of a noun word or noun phrase used as a single definer. Basic name modifiers shall be in a form acceptable to the G-3 Committee m
11、embers and shall be applied as shown in Figure 1. FIGURE 1 - Title Format 3.1Basic Names: For the sake of this document the basic name shall be in the form of a basic noun or basic noun phrase. Example: “HOSE“, “HOSE ASSEMBLY“, “DUCT“, ETC. 3.2Basic Name Modifiers: It is recommended that no more tha
12、n four basic name modifiers be used to form an item title except upon approval of the SAE. 3.2.1Basic Name First Modifier: The purpose of the first modifier is to narrow the area established by the basic name by identifying the hose liner material. Example: “ELASTOMERIC“, “POLYTETRAFLUOROETHYLENE“,
13、ETC. 3.2.2Basic Name Second Modifier: The purpose of the second modifier is to identify the hose reinforcement material. Example: “METALLIC“, “NONMETALLIC“, “PARA-ARAMID“, ETC. Example: “LOW PRESSURE“, “MEDIUM PRESSURE“, “3000 PSIG“, ETC. 3.2.4Bas
15、ic Name Fourth Modifier: The purpose of the fourth modifier is to identify the hose maximum operating temperature. Example: “275 F (135 C)“, “450 F (232 C)“, ETC. 3.2.5Additional Modifiers: Additional modifiers although not required by this document, may be used to identify the type and style of the
16、 end fittings. Example: “STR to STR FLARELESS“, “45 TO 45 BEAM SEAL“, ETC. 3.3Proprietary Names: Trade names, copyrighted names, or other proprietary names applying exclusively to the product of one company shall not be used unless the item cannot be adequately described because of the technical inv
17、olvement, construction, or composition (see Table 1). TABLE 1 - Proprietary Names 3.4Abbreviations: In general practice, the use of abbreviations shall be avoided. However, should the use of abbreviations become necessary, they shall be in compliance with MIL-STD-12. Compliance requires that: a.Basi
18、c name shall not be abbreviated. b.Basic name modifiers may use only the abbreviations listed in MIL-STD-12. See Table 2.
