、standard for connectors with the commercial designation of SMC, and is used as an addendum to TINEIA-604, Fiber Optic Connector Intermateability Standards. The provisions of TINEIA-604 apply to this document. 1.2 Description . The ferrule is spring loaded in the direction of the optical axis. The co

、nnector plug is mounted using a two-sided latching mechanism. It has an integrated mechanical key used to orient and limit the relative position between the connector and the component to which it is mated. The optical alignment precision is realized by two 0.7mm pins which may be installed in an ex

、ternal cable connector or in the component to which it is mated. 1.3 Objective The requirements of FOCIS x have been selected with the objectives of ensuring that a specified combination of connector assemblies conforming to the requirements of FOCIS x will mechanically intermate, and that intermate

、d connector assemblies will meet their common level of performance. The common level of performance of an intermated connector assembly is the least demanding set of performance requirements in the separate performance specifications of each of the products in the assembly; see TINEIA-604. A connect

、or assembly is defined as an assembly of a . . or a c=l plug, an adapter, and a c=2 plug, c=2 plug, and a receptacle See clause 3.2.6 for the definition of option c=l and c=2. Intermateability standards define the minimum physical attributes of mating connector components. Fully dimensioned componen

、ts are not within the scope or intent of this document. 1.4 Limitations 1.4.1 Configuration Options There are configuration options in FOCIS x that impose limitations on the combination of plugs that should be combined in a connector assembly: . . . . 1.4.2 Common Performance The following factors,

、however, shall be considered in the application of common performance: . Common performance does not account for intrinsic loss that may occur between the fibers being joined in a connector assembly and must be added to the basic connector loss; see TINEIA-604, section 6. . To apply common performan

、ce the distributions of the position of the fiber cores, as shown in figure 3-3, in the populations of connectors that are to be intermated, must be centered on the true positions of the respective fiber locations. 1 TIA SC FO-6.3; 07/14/2000 File: TIA-604-1 4-SMC-SP4834A Copyright Telecommunication

、ctices, the following shall apply: 1. Where a tolerance of form is not specified, the limits of the dimensions for a feature control the form as well as the size. The combined effects of size and form variations may not exceed the envelope of perfect form at the maximum material condition (MMC). 2.

、Where interrelated features of size (features shown with a common axis or center plane) have no geometric tolerance of location or runout specified, the limits of the dimensions for a feature control the location tolerance as well as the size. When the interrelated features are at the MMC, they shal

、l be perfectly located to each other as indicated by the drawing. 3. Where perpendicular features (features shown at right angles) have no geometric tolerance, orientation, or runout specified, the limits of the dimensions for a feature control the orientation tolerance as well as the size. When per

、pendicular features are at the MMC, they shall be perfectly oriented to each other as indicated by the drawing. 4. As the size of a feature departs from the MMC, variations in form, location and orientation are permissible. 2 TIA SC FO-6.3; 07/14/2000 Fi le: TI A-604-1 4-S MC-S P4834A Copyright Tele
