FOR PRELIMINARY REVIEW ONLY: This Proposed Tri-National Standard for Fire Pump Controllers covers controllers intended for starting and stoppin

2、g centrifugal and positive displacement fi re pumps, including automatic and non-automatic types for electric motor or engine driven pumps in accordance with NFPA 20, Stationary Pumps for Fire Protection. Types of controllers covered include diesel engine, electric motor, limited service, high volta

3、ge and residential. Controllers may be suitable for use as service equipment. This proposed tri-national edition of UL 218 is fundamentally the current UL 218 standard with the addition of national differences for Canada and Mexico and also includes the following signifi cant changes: a) Addition of

4、 defi nitions; b) Separation of requirements for motor starting into full and reduced voltage types; c) Clarifi cation of requirements for short circuit testing; d) Inclusion of requirements for: pressure switch/transducer tests, locked rotor overcurrent protection test, barrier dielectric strength

5、test, temperature test, dielectric voltage withstand test, and coated printed circuit board performance tests; e) Change in classifi cation of controllers for foam concentrate pump motors to controllers for electric motor driven additive pumps to correlate with NFPA 20-2007. 6、007 This proposal is for review and comment only (no ballot at this time). Please note that comments on a preliminary review document will not receive a response from the proposal author through CSDS. Instead, the proposal author is asked to review the comments received during the preliminary review

7、 and adjust the proposals and/or supporting rationale as the author determines to be appropriate. The preliminary review process is an informal mechanism that provides authors with the opportunity to refi ne their proposals before the proposals advance in ULs standards development process. Normally,

8、 the next step in the process is the more formal STP ballot and stakeholder review process. 14、ditive pumps to correlate with NFPA 20-2007. RATIONALE Proposal submitted by Bill Buckson, NEMA, on behalf of the CANENA THSC, THC 17B WG4. The CANENA Technical Harmonization Committee (THC) for Fire Pump Controllers has developed this standard to be the tri-national standard for fi re pump controll

15、ers. This tri-national standard for fi re pump controllers is being issued for preliminary review at this time. These requirements harmonize the Canadian, Mexican, and United States requirements for fi re pump controllers. The proposed standard contains requirements for fi re pump controllers claimi

16、ng compliance with NFPA 20 and other applicable standards. In the US, this standard will become the Second Edition of UL 218. It will become a new fi rst edition fi re pump controller standard for Canada (CSA C22.2 No. 263) and Mexico (NMX-J-XXX-YEAR-ANCE). This proposed tri-national edition of UL 2
