FUTURE MEETING SCHEDULE The meeting attendees agreed that next years STP 507 meeting should be coordinated with HVI as it has been done successfully in the past. AGENDA TOPICS 1. Updates from STP 507 Task Groups General Several task gr

、oups have been formed to address various topics within UL 507. Due to the priorities established, several of the task groups have been active, while several have been less active. A report of the status of each of the active task groups was given. Due to the number of topics on the agenda, task grou

、p efforts that have been on hold were only discussed if there was new information or if there were specifi c questions. A. Marking and Instructions Revisions to Part 1 Requirements - ON HOLD BACKGROUND A task group had been assigned to look into the areas of standardization of instructions within UL

、 507, alignment with ANSI Z535 guidelines, and a general reformatting of the layout of instructions relative to this standard. A draft proposal was developed and discussed at a previous STP Meeting. Based on the number of concerns regarding the proposal, it was decided that the task group should be

、L OR CSDS USE ONLY NOT FOR OUTSIDE DISTRIBUTION that the proposal could be further developed prior to balloting. However, it was decided at the March 2006 STP meeting that work of this group would be put on hold due to the priority of other task group activities and is still on hold. DISCUSSION A ch

、ange in membership was discussed. Dave Wolbrink volunteered to participate and also specifi ed that the Broan-Nutone Representative should be Al Klug. The task group membership is as follows: Gary Beideman, Ray Callahan, Lee Crawford, Robert Davis, Mark Hallet, Wayne Morris, John Seaman, Al Klug, Da

、ve Wolbrink, and Chante White Maurio (Chair of task group). B. Gas Range/Cooking Area Fan Interaction - ON HOLD BACKGROUND The Consumer Product Safety Commission had previously developed a report on Gas Range Delayed Ignition - Tests and Examination of Ranges. This report included testing related to

、 the interaction between specifi c cyclonic or air curtain type range exhaust hood constructions and the combustion of gas ranges. This topic has been discussed several times within the STP, and there has been consistent agreement that the best course of action would be for the Z21 Task Group to mee

、t with the STP 507 Task Group, to discuss development of requirements to address this issue, as well as where the potential requirements would be located. Attempts have been made by the STP 507 Task Group to initiate a meeting, but to date, the groups have not met and this item is on hold. The STP 5

、07 Task Group will continue to pursue a meeting with the Z21 Task Group. The STP 507 task group membership is as follows: Ray Callahan, Wayne Morris, Dave Wolbrink, Mark Eilbert, and Chante White Maurio (Chair of task group). DISCUSSION One STP member voiced concern that this issue will not be resol

、ved until these two groups get together. It was suggested that the STP 507 Task Group meet with the Z21 Task Group during the next Z21 meeting. Joe Musso volunteered to contact the Chair of the Z21 Task Group to fi nd out when their next meeting is scheduled and initiate discussion regarding coordin

、ation of a meeting of the two groups. NOTE: Subsequent to the STP Meeting, Joe Musso has contacted the Chair of the Z21 Range TAG. Accordingly, the STP 507 task group will be kept informed regarding further information related to coordination of a meeting between the Z21 Range TAG, and the STP 507 t

、ask group. C. Products Employing UV Lamps - ON HOLD BACKGROUND UL previously received inquiries regarding portable air fi ltering appliances employing UV lamps. Exposure to UV radiation poses several health risks and as such precautions limiting exposure needed to be implemented. In addition to expo

、sure to UV radiation, products of this type produce ozone at wavelengths less than 250 nm and the radiation degrades exposed polymeric materials. 25、, Kevin Not for Resale, 10/07/2007 22:08:31 MDTNo reproduction or networking permitted without license from IHS -,-,- FOR INTERNAL UL OR CSDS USE ONLY NOT FOR OUTSIDE DISTRIBUTION It was agreed upon by the STP that the long term solution for these requirements would be implementation through the Sta

、ndard for Electrostatic Air Cleaners, UL 867. The coordination required when working with multiple STPs would be a cause for this extended timetable. It was further agreed upon that the short-term solution would be to propose revisions to UL 507. On June 3, 2005, the revision to add new requirements

、 to UL 507 for products employing UV lamps, was proposed for ballot and comment. Based on the comments received, UL is presently considering the proposals further, and will schedule a teleconference in the future, to review and discuss the comments. It may then be necessary to revise the proposal fo

、r reballot. However, for now, this item is on hold. DISCUSSION A change in membership was discussed. Howard Jacoby will be replacing Brian Clarke. The task group membership is as follows: Chante White Maurio (Chair of task group), Howard Jacoby, Walt Birdsell, and a representative from Hamilton Beac

、h. D. Ceiling Insert Fan/Light BACKGROUND Current requirements in UL 507 were originally developed assuming a standard construction ceiling insert fan/light. This construction could be defi ned as a recessed fan and enclosure with a fl ush mount grille/light assembly. There was a need to develop req

、uirements for a construction consisting of a completely recessed product. The only visible element of this product is the trim assembly and the bottom of the bulb. Functionality of the exhaust portion of this product is accomplished by movement of the air around the sides of the light bulb. Potentia

、l risks associated with this product include fi re due to overlamping or mislamping of the assembly, shock due to potential water spray issues, and personal injury due to thermal shock of the bulb envelope and resulting breakage. A task group was formed, has met and the general consensus of the grou

、p was that recessed fan/lights are not signifi cantly different from ceiling insert fan/light with regards to safety requirements. Instead, the unique item that led to the original proposal was the utilization of type PAR and R lamps. The task group proposed that UL 507 be revised to expand performa

、nce requirements to include test criteria for lamp types other than type A. This would include the addition of a mislamping test and revisions to the overlamping test method. The Standard for Luminaires, UL 1598, was used as a general guide in the development of the draft proposal discussed at the M

、arch 2006 STP meeting. The task group membership is as follows: David Dahl, Daniel Desjardin, Ken Jonas, Mark Hallett, Chante White Maurio (Chair of task group). DISCUSSION UL noted that modifi cations to the proposal were made in light of the discussion at last years STP meeting. UL also created a

、fl ow chart to assist in the understanding of the test procedure. Once the proposal is ready to be posted to CSDS for preliminary review, this fl ow chart will be made available on CSDS as well. There were some questions regarding certain details of the revised Table 114.1. UL stated that the modifi

、 cations to the table were based on the Standard for Luminaires, UL 1598, and if anyone has specifi c concerns regarding certain lamps, they should provide them to Chante. Once these issues are resolved and

、other modifi cations to the proposal that were discussed during the meeting are included, this proposal will be sent to the STP and standard subscribers for preliminary review (comment only). E. Fan-Type Air Cleaners (Moving Requirements to UL 867) BACKGROUND UL was previously contacted regarding th

、e issue of fan-type air cleaners covered under the Scope of UL 507. It has been suggested that since there is a standard that already covers certain types of air cleaners (UL 867, Electrostatic Air Cleaners), that all or nearly all types of air cleaners should be covered under that air cleaner stand

、ard. This would mean that efforts would be needed to move fan-type air cleaner requirements from UL 507 to UL 867, and that the Title/Scope of UL 867 would need to be modifi ed accordingly. This was discussed at previous STP Meetings and there was general agreement that this issue should be explored

、. It was determined that a task group would be formed to compare the requirements in UL 507 and UL 867, clearly defi ne the Scopes of both standards, and develop draft proposals to modify UL 867. The intention would be that once UL 867 has been revised to include the applicable requirements from UL

、507, proposals could then be developed to remove any unnecessary requirements from UL 507. The STP agreed with this approach. A UL 507 and UL 867 comparison of requirements was developed and the task group met on September 29, 2005 to review that information and determine the next steps. The group i

、dentifi ed several areas that required further consideration and rework on this comparison was done by UL. On March 31, 2006, the document was sent back to the task group for review/discussion. Once the task group has completed its work, the proposed requirements to be included in UL 867 will be sen

、t to STP 867. Then, after the requirements in UL 867 are published in their fi nal form, revisions to delete the unnecessary requirements in UL 507 can be proposed as necessary. Another part of the task groups objective is to change the name of UL 867 to remove the term electrostatic. It was further

、 emphasized that the scopes of each standard should be carefully considered and written so that there will be a clear understanding of which products are covered under each standard. In order to have the most clearly defi ned scopes, it was suggested that the draft scopes be sent out for preliminary

、 review to both STPs for comment before any other requirements are proposed for ballot. The task group membership is as follows: Ramona Saar, Lee Crawford, Steve Gatchell, Matt Carley, Robert Davis, Brian Clarke, Ryan Martin, Patrick Kendrick, Brad Besse, Heather Rose, Normand Juneau, and Chante Whi

、te Maurio (Chair of task group). DISCUSSION UL stated that the comparison of the two documents is complete and the proposals for each standard should be ready to send to the task group for their fi nal review within the next few months. In addition, the revised scope for UL 507 will be sent to the S

、TP and standard subscribers for their review. Based on the various types of products covered under the Scope of UL 867, including future proposed changes, it was suggested that the membership of STP 867 be reconsidered with regards to representation for these products. Therefore, Greg Eggleston, Wal

、t Birdsell, Ron Battema, and John Fox requested STP 867 applications. F. Clothes Dryer Booster Fans MARCH 26, 2007SUBJECT 507-5- Copyright Underwriters Laboratories Inc.
