11、 the specifi c requirements these components must comply with, and minimum sizes to match the intended use of the tank. The proposed revisions are intended to add Physical Abuse Tests to UL 80 prior to conducting the hydrostatic pressure test to ensure the tank design type and accessories can meet e
12、xpected normal and abnormal conditions of transport, assembly, installation and use. Also documented in this general section are selection of samples, identifi cation of tests, assembly of accessories, tank placement and test fl uids. The hydrostatic test details were deleted (if too restrictive) or
13、 moved to another section. 15B Handle Strength This proposed test is intended to evaluate handles or lugs provided with the tank at a 2X safety factor. This test simulates normal tank transportation and is similar to requirements of other oil tank standards (UL 142, ULC S603 a) Upon installation pit
14、ch tank longitudinally, toward drain, at least 1/4 inch per foot of tank length; b) Vent pipe diameter must be at least equal to fi ll pipe diameter. A signaling device installed in vent pipe shall not reduce venting capacity below that of the fi ll pipe capacity; and c) Consult local authorities be
15、fore installation of tank. 18.4 The additional vent opening for venting of the space between the tank walls of each tank of secondary or interstitial construction shall be permanently marked with the following: Secondary vent do not vent indoors or plug. 17、king required in 18.3 and 18.4 shall be ink-stamped or paint-stenciled on the tank, or printed on an adhesive-backed label. Minimum letter height shall be 3/32 inch (2.4 mm) as measured by characters such as b, 1, or H. A contrasting background shall be provided for legibility. 18.6 An adhesive-back
18、ed label used for required markings shall comply with the requirements in the Standard for Marking and Labeling Systems, UL 969, rated for the intended surface and for: a) Outdoor use (at a temperature range of -35C to 60C (-31F to 140F), exposure to water, and ultraviolet light, and b) Exposure to
19、No. 2 Fuel Oil. Exception:An adhesive-backed label which contains installation information only need not comply with the requirements for exposure to No. 2 Fuel Oil. 18A Engineering Markings 18A.1 All Tanks 18A.1.1 Each tank nameplate shall be marked with the following manufacturer identifi cation a
20、nd general information as applicable: Note Words within “quotes” are the required verbatim markings. a) The manufacturers name, trade name, trademark or other descriptive marking which identifi es the company responsible for the product and factory ID code when manufactured at more than one factory.
21、 b) The manufacturing date in standard format (day/month/year), quarterly format (quarter/year) or a code that does not repeat in less than 20 years or require production record reference. c) The manufacturers web address and phone number to obtain installation, inspection and maintenance instructio
22、ns for compliance with 20.1. d) The tank series, model, catalog number, or equivalent identifi cation, and nominal capacity in gallons. e) The tank basic design type “Primary Tank”, “Secondary Tank” or “Diked Tank”, as appropriate. f) The optional construction type “Double Bottom” when in compliance
23、 with Section 6. 18A.1.2 Each tank shall be marked with the following critical assembly, installation, inspection, and cautionary information on or near the nameplate: a) “IMPORTANT - Assemble and Install per NFPA 31 and Manufacturer Instructions” and a “CAUTION” header followed by the following cri

27、ottom Tanks shall be marked with additional information as appropriate on the nameplate or other location as specifi ed. a) In order to reduce the risk of damage to the tank while conducting leak testing of the tank or piping, “Do Not Exceed 5 psig (34.5 kPa) Test Pressure” unless a specifi c constr
28、uction has additional damage potential at lower pressures in accordance with 18A.2.1 (b). b) Constructions where permanent deformation (such as a rectangular) or risk of injury to persons (such as fl at bottom) may occur while leak testing, “Do Not Exceed * psig Test Pressure” (where * = the manufac
29、turer maximum test pressure, but not less than 1.5 psig 10 kPa). 18A.3 Secondary Containment Tanks and Double Bottom Tanks 18A.3.1 In addition to all Engineering Markings in accordance with 18A.1 and 18A.2, Secondary Containment and Double Bottom Tanks shall also be marked with additional informatio
30、n as appropriate on the nameplate or other location as specifi ed. a) Identifi cation of an interstitial space opening that requires venting by “Interstitial Vent - Do Not Plug” located near the opening. b) Identifi cation of an interstitial space opening that is intended for monitoring by “Intersti
31、tial Monitor” or Monitoring Opening located near the opening. 18A.4 Diked Tanks 18A.4.1 In addition to all Engineering Markings in accordance with 18A.1 and 18A.2, Diked Tanks shall also be marked with additional information as appropriate on the nameplate or other location as specifi ed. a) The dik

34、In addition to all Engineering Markings in accordance with 18A.1, tanks provided with optional accessories in accordance with Section 5 shall also be marked with additional information as appropriate on the nameplate or other location as specifi ed. a) Identifi cation of spill container compliant wi
35、th 5.1 (a) “With Spill Container” located on the nameplate next to basic tank type. b) Identifi cation of tank support compliant with 5.1(b) - “With Support” located on the nameplate next to basic tank type 19 Marking Methods 19.1 The required markings shall be on a metal tag in accordance with 19.2
36、 or adhesive labels in accordance with 19.3 affixed to the tank. The markings shall be at least 3/32 inch (2.4 mm) high letters of a color contrasting to the background. The general information nameplate shall be a limited area of the tank shell, separate corrosion resistant metal plate attached to
37、the tank by welding or brazing, or corrosion resistant metal bracket or holder welded or brazed to the tank. 19.2 Metal tags shall be corrosion resistant metal at least 0.025 in (0.64 mm) thick provided with embossed, etched, stamped, engraved, punched, or equivalent marking method that penetrates t
38、he tag surface. The tag shall be fi xed to the tank or plate by welding or brazing, or secured to a bracket or holder by rivets or tamper resistant screws. Ink stamping or paint stenciling shall be evaluated in accordance with 19.3. 19.3 Adhesive label systems or decal transfers shall comply with th
39、e Standard for Marking and Labeling Systems, UL 969; rated for outdoor use (exposure to water, UV light and minimum temperature range of 29C to 60C 20F to 140F) and occasional exposure to oils; and suitable for the intended surface (base metal or paint type). 20 Instructions 20.1 Each tank shall be
40、supplied with instructions in accordance with 20.2 - 20.5 intended to provide proper procedures for assembly, installation, and use of the tank. These instructions shall be preceded by the statement “IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS” in bold text minimum 1/2 in (12.7 mm) high with at le
41、ast the following information in text minimum 1/8 in (3.2 mm) high, using any or all of the following methods: a) Shipped with the tank in a protective packing cover b) Shipped with the tank in a protected opening, c) Shipped on the tank as an adhesive label, or d) Available at the manufacturers web

43、S USE ONLY NOT FOR OUTSIDE DISTRIBUTION 20.2 Tank manufacturer identifi cation information shall include general tank information in 18A.1, and specifi c tank information identical to those applicable in 18A.2 to 18A.5, in addition to basic contact information (company name, address, phone, fax and
44、web) for the tank manufacturer or manufacturers authorized representative. 20.3 General information shall include, but is not limited to, assembly, installation, and use with details for site selection, site preparation, tank handling, support assembly, signal devices, level gauges, fi ll connection
45、s, vent connections, supply connections, plus periodic inspection and maintenance recommendations. 20.4 Specifi c information shall include, but is not limited to, recommended leak test procedures for each tank design with details for conducting the leak test, use of safety devices and cautionary or
46、 safety information for expected problems associated with pressure testing, and what to do if leaks are detected. 20.5 Recommended Installation Practices The instructions shall also reference recommended installation Codes, such as the Standard for Installation of Oil Burning Equipment, NFPA 31, and
47、 recommended inspection and maintenance practices such as NORAs Heating Oil Storage Tank Guide for Inspection and maintenance, or other industry equivalents. 1.1.2 Each tank shall be permitted to be fabricated as a double bottom tank as covered in this Standard. 3.1.8.1 DOUBLE BOTTOM TANK A primary
48、tank with an additional bottom capable of being pressurized and has means for monitoring for leaks in the interstitial space. 6.13 The additional bottom of double bottom tanks, when used, shall cover the tank bottom at least 2 inches (51 mm) above the lowest liquid level of the primary tank and not
49、less than 1 inch (25.4 mm) from each head. Figure 6.1 illustrates a typical double bottom design. This is generated text for fi gtxt. 6.14 Double bottom tanks, as an option, shall have the heads double contained a minimum of 2 inches (51 mm) from the lowest liquid level.
