4、地提高他们的英语写作能力。关键词:高中生,英语写作 ABSTRACTEnglish writing plays an extremely important role in the process of English learning, and it is an indispensable part in all kinds of English examinations, especially in the college entrance examination. Most of high school students often are at a loss on how to imp

5、rove their writing ability. Therefore, the paper will aim at the problem to a certain exploration. At the same time, the paper will talk about status-quo of English writing teaching in high school. Moreover, the paper will also analyze the causes of bottle-necks in English writing. Finally, the pape

6、r will talk about some methods to train in English writing, so that the students can improve their English writing ability better.Key words: high school student, English writing II1. IntroductionWith the development of society, English has become a very important language in the world. At the same t

7、ime, English writing plays a very important role in the process of English learning, and it is very significant and useful for learners to master the skill, especially for the high school students. Because students need to write a composition in the college entrance examination and the composition t

8、akes up 30% of the whole marks in the examination paper, which indicates students should regard English writing as an important thing when they are studying English. But it is not easy for them to write an excellent composition. Most of students want to write down about their own ideas and thoughts

9、in English, but they dont know how to write or what to write, because they always think that if they begin to write, there may be so many mistakes in their compositions. What is worse, they may make a lot of mistakes in words, sentences and grammars and so on. There were a lot of persons that have r

10、esearched the topic on how to improve the high school students English writing ability. For example, Yang Anli, Zhu Jingfang, Guo Yupu argue that students should know and remember the five basic sentence patterns. What is more, students can understand and use them well when they are writing composit

11、ions or do other exercises. Then, Liu Hai and Zheng Youjie hold students should read more books and more excellent articles. Whats more, students would better recite them (Liu Hai,Zheng Youjie 2009). Some researchers believe that teachers should ask students to make a daily report before having clas

12、s, which can practice students listening, reading and speaking, because the best way to learn a language well is to practice it (Liu Jiarong, Jiang Yuhong, 2010). So basing on above those achievements, in my opinion, the four basic skills to learn a language well is listening, reading, writing and s

13、peaking. And the four basic skills are complementary to each other. If one of them is weak, the other three basic skills will be affected.Here are the reasons that most of students can not write English composition. Firstly, they lack of adequate words. They cant find adequate words when they are wr

14、iting English composition. Secondly, they are short of necessary writing knowledge. Thirdly, they dont have corresponding practice. Fourthly, they are deficient in basic skills.Even though it is not an easy thing for the high school students to write an excellent English composition. There are still

15、 some methods for English writing training. Firstly, students can enlarge their English vocabulary. Secondly, they can enrich their writing knowledge. Thirdly, they can enhance writing practice. Fourthly, they can exercise various skills.There are four parts presented in the paper on how to improve

16、the high school students English writing. The second part is about status of English writing teaching in high schools. The third part analyzes reasons for the English writing bottleneck. The fourth part is about methods of English writing training and the last part is conclusion. This paper aims at

17、helping students recognize the importance of English writing and try their best to practice writing in class or after school. Besides, I wish the paper can help English teachers find some effective methods to improve students English writing ability.2. Status-quo of English Writing Teaching in High

18、School2.1 Problems in Teachers TeachingAs is known to all, teacher plays a very important role in the process of teaching and teacher has a great influence on students learning. Whats more, Students cant have an excellent performance without their teachers guidance when they are learning knowledge.

19、But there are still a lot of problems in teachers teaching, especially for students English writing in the College entrance examination or in other any examinations. Most of students English writing abilities are rather poor and the scores of English writing in the examination are not satisfied with

20、 their teachers and parents. However, the other results of Chinese and math are very good. Why their scores of English writing are so poor in the examination? Why students English writing abilities can not be improved in their English learning? In fact, there is a close relationship with their Engli

21、sh teachers teaching. In the following sections, the author boils down the teachers problems into three ones. Firstly, the English written tasks which many teachers usually give their students are random optional. That is, English teachers often ask students to write an English composition without c

22、areful selection and good guidance. Students dont know how to set about to write for the content teacher give them in the English writing class. It is not a scientific and systematic arrangement for writing training in the English writing class. This time is to write a diary, and then this next time

23、 is to write an argumentation and this next time again is exposition. Students cant understand fully a kind of style of writing, and then immediately write another style. This is a difficulty for anyone and students are not an exception. The usual training is not to be carried on the classification

24、of subject matter for English writing, at the same time, teachers also have no specific and systematic training in the English writing class. And what title teachers get will be asked to write by students in the English writing class. Namely teachers dont plan to tell them what theme before asking s

25、tudents to write. Secondly, few English teachers give enough feedbacks or comments on their students English writing homework. In other words, due to many tasks for written expression to be corrected for English teachers, many teachers simply give students a score for their English written expressio

26、n without any modifications and comments. This modification with oversimplified and indifferent lacks of humanistic care and encouragement and guidance for their English learning. Students take back examination paper or exercise book from their teacher and see only a fraction without any comments or

27、 modifications, they can have some thoughts that they think their teachers dont look after their learning at school. Most importantly, they dont know which sentences they write well or which places they cant write well or what are the errors in their written expression. The written expressions that

28、students write well cant get teachers affirmation and praise. As time goes on, students will lose interest in English writing and at the same time they will be tired of English writing. What is worse, they can think it is not important when teacher arrange them to write English writing in the Englis

29、h writing class.Thirdly, English teachers training model for English writing is ineffective. Many teachers are tired of the correction of written expression and they also dont like to explain and comment for the written expression. They think that this is a waste of time and at the same time they fe

30、el that this has no any effect on the English written expression and the evaluations of the written expression have no any help for improving English written expression in the process of English writing. Therefore, even teachers want to give students some guidance they still tell students a little w

31、riting information, and then let the students copy the model essay. Teachers lack of the effective comments of the well-written sentences in the process of evaluation and dont give specific and systematic guidance in the class. And dont give students some effective ways for improving English writing

32、 and teach them how to change the bad situation in learning. Under the circumstances, students are afraid of writing English composition or dont like to write, because they dont know how to write and what to write when teachers ask them to write English writing in the class.2.2 Problems in Students

33、Writing Writing is a kind of thinking activity and it is also a kind of express way of student. English writing skills training is an effective way to develop students thinking skills and the ability to express and it is also one of the standards to measure the effect of English teaching. What is mo

34、re, we should know that students are practitioners in the study. So they will meet a lot of problems about English writing in the process of learning. And these problems in the English writing which will give them too much trouble.Firstly, the high school students are generally afraid of written exp

35、ression. At the mention of writing, they have a fear feeling. Firstly, because it is not their mother tongue, they are so worried about their own poor vocabulary that they can not vividly express their ideas. Secondly, they were afraid of making mistakes in writing and can not express clearly the me

36、aning because of their grammar unskilled. Thirdly, they firstly design a text in Chinese before they start to write English writing, and then translate them into English, and they rarely used to keep a diary and write essays in English. Fourthly, they always neglect to modify or check up their own a

37、rticles after they finish their writing. Even if teacher helps them correct those sentences that they make mistakes in words or grammars, they cant also have a look at them after class.Secondly, in the usual training, we will find that many students often make a mistake for reading the topic. The re

38、sult that they use tenses at will including the present tense, the past tense and the future tense will make large number of mistakes in grammar and has a heavily influence on the whole effect for the written expression. Many students only pay more attention to the expression of subjective content,

39、but not use the right person. And students do not pay attention to the clues of the topic. Some of the more difficult words, such as some place names, have the English prompts, but instead of using Hanyu Pinyin. Some students handwriting is not standard and it is illegible, or word that they write i

40、s too small to crowd and it is difficult to identify. And some students do not have the habit of using capital letters, however, some students often suddenly put a capital letter in the middle of a sentence. For some students, they do not pay attention to the use of punctuation and handwriting. Howe

41、ver, now the college entrance examination is online marking, which will directly affect the score of the written expression.3. Causes of the English Writing Bottle-neck3.1 Lacking of Adequate WordsVocabulary is the foundation to learn English writing well. It is very difficult and impossible to writ

42、e an excellent composition for anyone without enough vocabulary. Therefore, it is quite vital for English learners to master abundant vocabulary at anytime. However, most of students English words and phrases are extremely few. They can have a sense of the difficulty to write an English written expr

43、ession when their teacher let them write it in the English class or when they take part in an English examination in the classroom and they find that the vocabulary that they master in the usual time is very few and they understand the significance to have vocabulary. There are a great many reasons

44、for lacking of adequate words for most of the high school students. Firstly, most of students do not like to remember the words in learning. They think that it is boring and meaningless to recite vocabulary all day. What is worse, the thing which they do not recite vocabulary will make their words b

45、ecome more and more few. Secondly, vocabulary learning initiative is not strong and the enthusiasm is not high. In the process of English learning, many students are accustomed to accept knowledge passively and complete the learning task. They are strongly dependent on the teachers and teaching mate

46、rials and they are rarely active to read extra-curricular books, listen to the radio, watch TV,look it up in the dictionary, communicate with the students and the other means to increase the input of English vocabulary and the thing to enrich their vocabulary and background or improve the comprehens

47、ive ability of English vocabulary. Thirdly, it is not appropriate to learn vocabulary on method. Many students in vocabulary learning have a strong sense of fear in the heart and at the same time, vocabulary learning lacks of scientific and effective way due to the influence of the Chinese language.

48、 What is worse, they can not use the spelling rules and the rules of word-formation to understand the inner link of word between sound, form and meaning. And it is difficult to grasp the words spelling method. Some students spend a lot of time reading the words and memorizing them, but the effect is poor and it is very easy to forget them soon. 3.2 Absence of Writing Knowle
