1、Determining Commencement Salary for a Classroom Teacher (for Hire or Rehire on or after 6 October 2013)The following information is provided to assist principals in determining a classroom teachers commencing salary. These administration procedures are to be used in conjunction with the policy infor

2、mation in the Remuneration-Teaching Service Guide which is available on HRWeb. The Remuneration on Employment, Transfer or Promotion section of the Guide specifies the policy that relates to determining a classroom teachers commencement salary.These procedures apply where a teacher: is offered emplo

3、yment on either a fixed term or ongoing basis, or is rehired for a further period of employment and has additional approved teaching experience since their last termination as a teacher with the Department. .These procedures do not apply: where a fixed term teacher is offered translation to an ongoi

4、ng position. where an ongoing teacher transfers between schools, either temporarily or permanently, or to an ongoing teacher returning from unpaid leave who presents evidence of approved teaching experience gained while on leave.Determining a teachers commencing salaryWhen a person is offered employ

5、ment, his or her commencing salary is determined based on his/her employment history. All commencement salary determinations for classroom teachers employed on or after 6 October 2013 are calculated using Classroom Teacher Range 1 Step 1 as the starting point. When offering employment to a classroom

6、 teacher it is important that principals correctly determine the commencement salary.A calculator which includes the requirements outlined below and step-by-step procedures for determining a teachers commencement salary is available on the Remuneration-Teaching Service page on HRWeb at: Remuneration

7、-Teaching ServiceExperienceA teachers approved teaching experience is taken into account in determining the teachers commencing salary subdivision.Full details of what is included as approved teaching experience is set out in the Remuneration-Teaching Service Guide on HRWeb. In particular, it should

8、 be noted that the only casual teaching that can be included is experience gained as a casual relief teacher in a Victorian government school after 1 January 2005. In addition principals may now determine teaching experience gained in an international school equivalent to an Australian P-12 school s

9、etting without referring the matter to Schools HR Services.Evidence of approved teaching experienceVictorian government schoolWhere a teacher was last employed in your school and employment ceased after 1 January 1992 the teachers service history can be obtained from the Service History pages on the

10、 payroll. in another Victorian state government school(s), the service history details can be obtained from the Service History pages on the payroll after the Hire/Rehire transaction has been completed. This information does not need to be provided by the teacher.Use the service history information

11、to calculate the commencement salary level and then, if necessary, adjust the Hire/Rehire line accordingly. The teacher should provide appropriate evidence of casual relief teaching in Victorian government schools completed on or after 1 January 2005 for inclusion in the commencement salary calculat

12、ion.Other Australian schoolsWhere a teacher seeks to have teaching experience with another Australian school recognised for commencement salary purposes, the teacher must supply a statement of service (signed and on letterhead) from the employer setting out the following: name of employer position h

13、eld commencement and termination (cessation) dates time fraction(s) worked, and details of any leave without pay taken during employment (where no leave has been taken, a nil response should be included).In the absence of this documentary evidence the teacher should commence on Classroom Teacher Ran

14、ge 1 Step 1. If appropriate, the teachers salary can be adjusted later following an assessment of the teachers experience.Teachers who have already obtained an assessment should present this to the principal to verify their qualifications and/or their approved teaching experience.Any teaching experi

15、ence previously assessed by Schools HR Services will be included in the employees job/service history information on the payroll. On completion of the current calculation enter details in General Comments of the years of teaching experience that have been recognised in determining the commencement s

16、alary. This can be used in subsequent calculations avoiding the need to recalculate previously approved experience.International settingsWhere a teacher wishes to have teaching experience with an employer in an international setting recognised for commencement salary purposes, the teacher must suppl

17、y a statement of service as set out above.The teaching experience (evidenced by the Statement of Service) must be in a P-12 or equivalent school in a fixed term or ongoing teaching position. To help you to determine if the employing school is an equivalent P-12 school setting, an internet search of

18、the school or employer may be used to help make an informed decision.Employment by an employment agency or where employment is on a daily or sessional basis is not approved teaching experience.On completion, enter details in General Comments of years of teaching experience that has been approved in

19、determining the commencement salary.
