3、ent. English, as one of the most popular languages, is playing a more and more significant role in communication. Traditional English class makes students depend on teachers gradually and greatly; their desire and ability of learning are lowered. They can deal with all kinds of written examinations,

4、 but cant communicate freely in English. They are successful in acquiring language system as a separate body of knowledge but fail to learn how to use it. Based on this, I rearranged this class to make our teaching more helpful and useful. This class, through using English to inform themselves with

5、information about festivals around the world, designing, communicating with each other and solving problems, my students will come to the unit with full interest. Analysis of the teaching materialThe topic of this article is mainly about festivals in different countries, such as America, Japan, Mexi

6、co, European countries and china. The article gives a brief introduction of festivals in different cultures for different purposes, for example, some are celebrated to honor famous people, some are held to have fun and also some festivals are in memory of the dead. In addition, it makes a comparison

7、 about what people in different cultures do on different festival day, which leads students to learn the difference of various cultures in order to act better in intercultural communication. Moreover, this article have listed out a great amount of new words and expressions which plays an important r

8、ole in the usage, such as speaking, reading, writing and translation of English. All these words and expressions are the necessities of having a good command of English for students; therefore, they are the important points in the teaching of this article.As for aims for students in grasping the gra

9、mmar of this article is to be able to differentiate various Modal Verbs such as can, could, may, might, must, will, would, shall should, ought, dare and need. Modal Verbs play a very important role in English language, so to learn the usage of them, both in positive form and negative form, is very e

10、ssential for English learners. Analysis of characteristics of the learnersThis article is for students of grade one in senior high school. They have already studied English for five or six years in primary school, junior high school and high school. According to the Ordinary Foreign Language Curricu

11、lum Standard, students of grade one in senior high school should be in level six of integrated language skills goal for English as foreign language learners. That is to say, these students should have a strong independent learning awareness, can understand oral or written materials and can express t

12、heir opinions. They can effectively use oral or written language to describe their own experiences. They can also plan, organize and implement a range of English learning activities with teachers help. In addition, they can take the initiative to make use of various learning resources and to obtain

13、information from multiple channels. Furthermore, they are able to adjust their learning goals and strategies according to the evaluation results. Most importantly, they can understand the background of cultural connotations of the language in communication. In the meanwhile, they are in the process

14、of reaching level seven of integrated language skills goal for English as foreign language learners. So, firstly, they need to continue to expand their vocabulary so as to be able to read the original English literature and English newspapers for senior high school students. Secondly, they need to e

15、nhance their ability in communication in different areas.
