Differences reflected in catering habits and personal privacy are just superficial which are also parts of cross-cul

5、tural communications. As a result, we should do research in these inner core connotations through these superficial differences, namely, differences in personal thinking mode, view of the world, view of the life and values. For example, people in Europe and USA never eat animalsinternal organs such

6、as heart, large intestine, pig stomach and so on. They also never hunt for and kill so-called wild animals without quarantine, such as monkeys, pangolins, snakes, egrets and they of course do not eat their loyal friends like dogs. Those differences all originate from cultural differences in differen

7、t nationalities in different countries and they are also the results caused by human thinking mode and values. In order to perform effective cross-cultural communication and promote people from all over the world to get along well with each other, getting to understand the superficial and deep cultu

8、ral structure is the priority. Only by doing this, can we eliminate misunderstanding, break down the gaps and achieve the win-win operation in cross-cultural communication.In order to reproduce, matriarchal society appeared soon after the appearance of human civilization. Later, after the union and

Connotation of cultureCatering culture is the cultural phenomenon about what human being have anddrink, which goes through the whole historical period in the development of human beings and is reflected in all aspects.Culture has two meanings, one is generalized and the other is narrow. In a

11、 broad sense, catering cultures refers to all the physical and non-physical cultural integration created by human in their catering activities. However, in a narrow sense, catering culture just refers to the non-physical cultures created by human beings in their catering activities, such as catering

12、 customs and so on.Differences in catering viewWesterners attach importance to rational science and nutritional health. As a result, they show significance to calories, energies, proteins, vitamins and so on based on the selection of food. They pay less attention to the taste, forms, colors and so o

13、n caused by cooking. Their main food mostly depends on bread, corn and steak, and sometimes they also change the taste into curry, pepper and garlic.However, Chinese people pay much attention to aspect of cooking. Last year, a bite of China in CCTV put together all the delicious food from all over t

14、he country, which makes us understand the cultural backgrounds behind those delicious food. A dish which seems easily to be made actually costs a lot of time and energy, such as a dish called lion head, which usually needs more than three hours to be completed. 15、like cafeteria and usually they execute individual serving which originated from the Enlightenment Movement and Industrial Revolution in the seventeenth and eighteenth century. Each person each kit of cutlery during the process of eating and everyone dines quietly and elegantly without noise, quarre

16、l and toast, which all reflect the worship of individualismin Westerners.However, in China, the Chinese people focus on reunion and jollification, namely, everyone sits arounda round table on which are delicious dishes and people help each other to dishes together with toast, which reveals that Chin

17、ese people loves jollificationand attach importance to the concept of family and blood relationship. That is thereflection of union and prosperity in Chinese ethnic peoples and the ancient Chinese philosophy thought of harmony.V. Differences in dining speedWesterners like to eat fast food and they p

18、ay much attention to finishing doing things and speaking quickly, from which we get to know that Westerners show significance to efficiency and focus on the purpose of getting maximum profits. However, Chinese people devote particular care to chewing carefully and eating slowly. In all ages, being g

19、entle and cultivated, dining without making noise and women smiling without showing teeth in Confucianism are followed as before. VI.Differences in cutleryOn account of different catering habits, cutlery on the table is also different. Westerners use knife and fork, together with spoon when eating d

20、isserts. During the feudal period in Europe, noble family usually use silver cutlery. In the fifteenth century, there appeared fork with two gears and in the eighteenth century, there appeared fork with four gears. All in all, cutlery has less diversity and single material.In China, people in all ag

21、es use chopsticks which appeared about three thousandyears ago. In feudalperiod of ancient society, jadechopsticks, jade bowls or clay bowls made in Jingde Town are used in the imperial palace. Before dinner, servants will use a silver needle to test whether the dish is poisonousor not. Besides,peop

22、le also attach importance to the color of the cutlery and the match between style and food. When the dish is served, its name should be told, which is to attract peoples attention and appetite.VII. ConclusionIn a word, catering culture belongs to culture, which is also an important part of cross-cul

23、tural communication. The cultures of China and the West in all ages have wide differences from all aspects due to the regional cultural differences that have caused differences in values between China and the West.
