1、The Future Status of English as Global Language is not Assured As a British expert estimates, about 350 million people speak English as their first language. And maybe 250-350 million do or can use it as a second language; in ex-colonial countries, notably, or in English-majority ones, English is al
2、so used. In all, 20-25 percent of earths 6 billion people can use English; not the English in England, but English. It is the disputable truth that English has been playing an essential role in the world wide connection and is used most frequently and officially. Many notably the English-speakers th
3、ink that the future status of English as global language is assured; however, I hold the opinion that its impossible to exist single one kind of language as the global language under the tendency of national diversity.The believer of English going to be global language claim that English is now well
4、 spread with active nudge the Internet. Hundred years ago, as British on their way to build the empire on which the sun never set, they also grab America in its territory and made it the English-speaking country.The birth of computer and its American system certainly gave English a push to spread by
5、 using English on internet. However, many other countries have also made great achievement in this field, like India, Japan and China. Some non-English sites sprung up years ago, which resulted in the proportion of English resource on internet declines. Besides, the language ENGLISH used on computer
6、 is some extents the statistics helping the system works. Thus any kind of well- organized language can be input into the date base and paly the same role as English does. Many facts show that English is used widely in economic, political and educational fields. As business spreads frontiers, compan
7、y wants put their executive abroad and make the most promotion of it. So those executives who want to be in that frame or go for another employer must learn to use English. English is not only the essential official language in some international conferences but the most valid language in academic j
8、ournals. It also dominates second language learning and the number of English-learners increases as new pupils go into school. Nevertheless, all these facts have put it aside that many other languages also being used frequently in these fields at the same time and ignore the phenomenon that English
9、is adopted into other languages. For example, when sign contract in business cooperation, the executives usually appeal French which can explain the content more rigorously. There are six official languages in the UN, and of course, all these six languages will be used at same moment in conferences.
10、 As the globalization comes in inevitable pace, the mixing of different languages will happen consequently. “But in time words will be adapted into Portuguese, and things will get better” a Brazilian expert said as above.Last but not the least, as a global language it must be adopted and understood
11、by inhabitants in global scopes one day; while neither can be managed. Some nations consider the learning of foreign language as cultural invasion and consequently resist it in wrath. Just as Brazilian experts appeal to reject the increasing influx of English expression. On the other hand, for those
12、 tribes, English can hardly be translated into their dialect and accepted by them. Out of protection for polyphyletic culture, these languages should be inherited let alone those linguistic form having developed and spread extensively. And the many other linguistic cultures have reached its prosperi
13、ty. For example, the American movie and series attract us; whereas the Indian films, Japanese cartoon and Chinese opera also have made great achievements. All in all, out of the respect for diversity for polybasic culture and fact linguistic development, the English can not become the global language, at least its future status as global language is not assured.
