27、ntphotometricdeterminationofthecomplex.4.2 Acidicwater-steam-distillationThein-cantotalformaldehydecontentisdeterminedbyacidwater-steamdistillation,asthismethodreleasesallavailableformaldehydefromthecoatingmaterial.Whenformaldehydeboundtoaformaldehydedepotsubstanceispresentinthecoating,itiscleavedin

28、theacidicenvironmentduringwater-steamdistillationandiscollectedtogetherwiththein-canfreeformaldehydeasin-cantotalformaldehydeafterthesteamdistillationprocess.4.3 DerivatizationwithchromotropicacidInordertoenablephotometricdetectionultraviolet(UV)orvisible(VIS)offormaldehyde,derivatizationshallbecarr

29、iedouttointroducechromophores.Thein-cantotalformaldehydecontentisdeterminedphotometricallyafteraderivatizationreactionwithchromotropicacid.FormaldehydereactsinthepresenceofsulfuricacidwithtwomoleculesofchromotropicacidinorthopositiontothephenolicOHgroup.Inthesecondstep,H2SO4actsasanoxidizingagentand
