It happened shortly after this that the Lion was caught by some hunters, who bound him by strong ropes to the ground. The Mouse

4、, recognizing his roar, came and gnawed the rope with his teeth and set him free, exclaiming:狮子睡着了,有只老鼠跳到了他身上。狮子猛然站起来,把他抓住,准备吃掉。老鼠请求饶 命,并说如果保住性命,必将报恩,狮子轻蔑地笑了笑,便把他放走了。不久,狮子真的被 老鼠救了性命。原来狮子被一个猎人抓获,并用绳索把他捆在一棵树上。老鼠听到了他的哀 嚎,走过去咬断绳索,放走了狮子,并说:“You ridiculed the idea of my ever being able to help you , expec

6、n he failed to heal their disputes by his exhortations,he determined to give them a practical illustration of the evils of disunion;and for this purpose he one day told them to bring him a bundle of sticks. When they had done so,he placed the faggot into the hands of each of them in succession,and o

7、rdered them to break it in pieces. They tried with all their strength ,and were not able to do it. He next opened the faggot,took the sticks separately,one by one,and again put them into his sons hands, upon which they broke them easily. He then addressed them in these words:“My sons, if you are of

8、one mind , and unite to assist each other , you will be as this faggot ,uninjured by all the attempts of your enemies;but if you are divided among yourselves ,you will be broken as easily as these sticks.”有个父亲的儿子们常常互相争斗不休。他多次语重心长地劝说他们,尽管他苦口婆心, 仍 无济于事。他认为应该用事实来教育他们,便叫儿子们去拿一捆木棒来。木棒拿来后,他 先 把整捆木棒交给他们,叫他
