1、User Guide: Taiwan Electronic Periodical Services (TEPS)“臺灣電子期刊服務網”使用指南I. INTRODUCTION Taiwan Electronic Periodical Services (TEPS) is an on-line database which offers the largest number of full-text Taiwanese periodicals in the world. On April of 2008, TEPS contains more than 750 Taiwanese periodic
2、als, covering Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Applied Sciences, and Medical and Life Sciences. Additional titles are added regularly. Through the Internet, TEPS provides you fast, convenient and far-reaching services which allow you to easily search, browse, and print articles in Taiw
3、anese periodicals online. For better search result, users have to search in Chinese. II. ACCESS University of California users have access to the database and can download the article on workstation only within the authorized IP range(s).III. MAIN FUNCTIONS TEPS homepage presents users the following
4、 main functions:1. Browse Journals 主題瀏覽 By clicking “Browse Journals 主題瀏覽”, users can quickly view journals by “Subjects 學科別” in Humanities 人文學, Social Sciences 社會科學, Natural Sciences 自然科學, Applied Science 應用科學, and Medical and Life Sciences 醫學與生命科學. Users can also view journals by “Publisher出版機構” a
5、nd “Number strokes of first title word 刊名筆劃”. 2. Quick Search 快速查詢Users can type in the Chinese terms in search box, then, select “Articles 文章” to search for article title, author, and keywords, or, select “Journals 期刊” to search for journal title and publisher.3. Advance Search 進階查詢In this part, yo
6、u can choose to search by “Find Articles 查詢文章” or “Find Journals 查詢期刊”. Find articles 查詢文章Users can enter the search term in the search box and select a field, such as, “all fields 所有欄位”, “article title篇名”, “author作者”, “keyword關鍵字”, or “abstract摘要.” Then, specify Language 内容語文 , Article Type 文獻類型, F
7、ull-text Availability 電子全文, “Sort by結果排序”, “Number of results shown per page每頁顯示筆數”, and Published Date Rage出版日期 to limit your search results. Find journals 查詢期刊Users can enter the search term in the search box and select Title刊名 or Publisher 出版單位. Then, specify Language内容語文 to limit your search. Al
8、so the number of results shown per page每頁顯示筆數can be set here. 4. Switch to English VersionWhen you click on this function, the interface of all pages will be switched to English. However, you will need to search in Chinese for a better result. Searching in Romanization does not work for this databas
9、e. 5. Q & AThis page includes brief information on TEPS database and services TEPS provides, how to browse journals, and how to search articles or journals. IV. SEARCH EXAMPLES Option 1: Conduct a “Quick search 快速查詢” by Journal title, then view the articleA. For example, you can key in the journal t
10、itle “漢學研究” in the quick search field on the top of Web-page, select “Journal期刊 ” and then enter.B. On the “Search result查詢結果清單” page, you will find the title “漢學研究”, click on that title. C. On the “Browse the journal information 瀏覽期刊指南” page, you will find the numbers or volumes included in this jo
11、urnal on the upper section and detail bibliography of this journal“期刊基本資料” on the lower section. Click on the number/volume of your choice to find all articles in that issue.D. To View the article/articles from search results: a) On the “Browse Journal Table of Contents 瀏覽期刊卷期目次” page: At the end of
12、 article title, a page icon means the full-text article is available for viewing or printing. On the upper right corner of result list, you can find choice of display by ”Tabular Display 以表格顯示” as the default, “Itemized Display以條列顯示”, and you can click on downward arrow to view next issue. While vie
13、wing the list of titles, you can check on the article or articles of your interest, then click “Condensed看簡目資料” or “Standard看詳目資料” to display citation format of selected article at the bottom of table contents (“Standard” contains three more fields, abstract, keywords, and category, than “Condensed”
14、). You an also check on “Check all選擇全部” or “Clear清除註記” for selecting /deselecting articles. b) Click on No. 14 article begins with “甲骨文合集” for example. On “View the article information瀏覽文章書目資料” page, click on “download 下載全文” (An Adobe Reader v.7.0 or above is required to view the full-text article.)
15、 The PDF file will be opened in a new window to show the full-text article.Option 2: Conduct a “Advance search進階查詢” A. Click on “Advance Search 進階查詢.” You can choose to search by “Find Articles 查詢文章” or “Find Journals 查詢期刊”. Click on “Find Articles查詢文章” for this example. B. Key in “婦女研究” on the sear
16、ch box. To limit your search result, select “all fields 所有欄位” in Field, and specify “Chinese” in Language 内容語文 , no limited on Article Type 文獻類型, limited to full-text only 限有全文 on Full-text Availability Only電子全文, displayed by publication date on “Sort by結果排序”, no limited on “Number of results shown
17、per page每頁顯示筆數”, and Published Date Rage出版日期, then, enter.C. On the search result 查詢結果清單page, you will see 195 item results. Click on No. 2 for example. D. On “View the article information瀏覽文章書目資料” page, click on “download下載全文.” (An Adobe Reader v.7.0 or above is required to view the full-text artic
18、le.) The PDF file will be opened in a new window to show the full-text article. Option 3: Conduct a search from “Subject browse 主題瀏覽”A. You are looking for a history journal, click “Browse Journals主題瀏覽” on the upper left corner. B. Click “Humanities 人文學” under “Subjects 學科別.” C. Click “History 歷史學”
19、under “Humanities人文學.” D. Note: the number after “History歷史學” (31) means there are 31 journals in History category.E. On the “Browse Journals瀏覽期刊清單”page, click on “Historical Monthly 歷史月刊” in the button of this page, no. 29.F. On “Browse the journal information 瀏覽期刊指南” page , you can read the basic
20、information “about this journal期刊基本資料” by clicking on the “ About the Journal期刊基本資料” on the left bottom column, or on the lower section of this page. Click on the issue you want. G. On the “Browse Journal Table of Contents 瀏覽期刊卷期目次” page, please refer to Option 1-“D”-“a)” for features explanation. T
21、hen, click on article of your choice, and follow Option 1“b)”.Option 4: Conduct a search by “Publisher出版機構”A. You want to find article/articles published by Academia Sinica, and you know this institution might be categorized in “政府機關.”B. Click on “政府機關,” you will find many government institutions, c
22、lick on “中央研究院中國文哲研究所.” C. You will find two journals published by this institution, click on either one and follow the procedures on Option 3, F to G.Option 5: Conduct a search by “Number strokes of 1st title word刊名筆劃”A. You are looking for “人口學刊,” the 1st word of title is “人” that has 2 strokes. S
23、o, you click on “1-5 strokes” category. B. You will find “人口學刊” at No, 8. Click on “人口學刊.” C. You will see “Browse the journal information 瀏覽期刊指南” page, follow on Option 3, F to G, for more steps. It is important that you log off from this database at the end of your search.Additional Note: Request
24、for Inter-Library Loan (ILL) from a non-UC institution must be tracked for a report to Airiti. This is a condition within the current Airiti agreement. It is important to count requests for articles coming directly to you from non-UC institutions. Annie Lin will need to report the counts from you and your librarys ILL staff for the period of April 2008 through December 2008.
