11、T+00:00 2006, Uncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI BS 1344-6:1971 ii BSI 07-1999 Foreword This Part of BS 1344, prepared under the authority of the Surface Coatings (other than Paints) Industry Standards Committee, supersedes BS 1344-1.2:1947, “Alkali resistance”. The changes involved are only of an editorial

12、 and metrication nature and therefore no draft was circulated to industry for comment. An alkali test is frequently called for in relation to baths, wash-boilers, sinks and similar domestic equipment. For the determination of alkali resistance a 5 % solution of sodium carbonate has been specified fo

13、r general purposes. For special purposes, other types and strengths of alkali may be used, as for example a 10 % solution of sodium hydroxide when a more stringent test is desired. In such cases, however, the type and strength of the alkali should always be specified. The publication of this Part co

14、mpletes the revision of BS 1344:1947, and the standard now consists of the following parts: Part 1: Resistance to thermal shock; Part 2: Resistance to culinary acids; Part 3: Resistance to products of combustion; Part 4: Resistance to abrasion; Part 5: Resistance to detergents; Part 6: Resistance to

Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. Summ

18、d the following definition applies: Vitreous enamel. A glazed surface finish produced by the application of a powdered inorganic glass, dry or suspended in water, to metal parts, and its subsequent fusion. 3 Test specimen The test specimen shall be a component part of a vitreous enamelled appliance.

19、 4 Apparatus The following apparatus is required: 1) A glass tube 100 mm long and 63 mm diameter, with both ends flanged (see Figure 1 and Figure 2). 2) A small immersion heater (see Figure 2). 5 Testing solution The reagent used shall be a 5 % solution of sodium carbonate made by dissolving 10 g of

20、 analytical reagent quality anhydrous sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) in distilled water and making up to 200 ml. NOTEThis solution of sodium carbonate has been chosen as providing the best standard for the determination of alkali resistance for general purposes. For special purposes, other types and stre

In such cases, however, it is essential to specify the type and strength of alkali used. 6 Procedure Clean the surface to be tested with acetone or aqueous ammonia followed by hot water and th

Rub a small quantity of colloidal graphite2) or manganese dioxide on to the dry enamel surface with a clean soft c

For black or dark coloured enamels, use titanium oxide instead of graphite or manganese oxide. 7 Test report The test report shall include a description of the differen
