、 12 08:58:39 GMT+00:00 2006, Uncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI BS 2745-2:1993 ii BSI 02-1999 Foreword It is recommended that this foreword be read in conjunction with the foreword to BS 2745-1. This Part of BS 2745 has been prepared under the direction of the Laboratory Apparatus Standards Policy Committee

、. Together with Parts 1 and 3, it supersedes BS 2745:1966, which is withdrawn. The first edition of BS 2745, which was published in 1956, with a second edition in 1966, applied to bedpan and urine bottle washers operating on a choice of any one of three specified washing sequences. However, in this

、revision, the structure of BS 2745 has been changed so that the general requirements applicable to all washer-disinfectors are now given in Part 1. This Part includes details specific to equipment for emptying, cleaning and disinfecting containers used to hold human waste intended for disposal, such

、 as: portable sanitary pans (see BS 2588); hospital holloware (see BS 5452); urine bottles (see BS 3215); suction bottles; and products similar to the above and used for similar types of purpose. Requirements for washer-disinfectors for other medical purposes except linen are specified in Part 3 of

、this standard. Washer-disinfectors for human waste containers are loaded manually. In order to reduce the risk of spillage and the generation of aerosols, most machines incorporate means to empty the containers automatically, e.g. by the action of closing the door. Where equipment does not provide a

、utomatic emptying facilities, extra care is needed by the user. However, in the case of urinals, it is common practice for them to be emptied during loading by the operator and most washer-disinfectors are designed for this procedure. When this is not acceptable, the purchaser should discuss possibl

、e alternative procedures with the manufacturer. The efficacy of disinfection may be impaired if soil removal is incomplete before commencement of a disinfection process (see the foreword and clause 13 of BS 2745-1:1993). Manufacturers literature should describe loading procedures designed to ensure

、effective cleaning of soiled surfaces (see clause 13). The reliability of a washer-disinfector for human waste containers will be seriously affected if connected to a poorly designed drainage system, and the purchaser, therefore, is recommended to refer to BS 8301, a code of practice for building dr

Users of this British Standard are advised to consider the desirability of third party certification of product conformity with this British Standard, based on testing and continuing product surveillance which may be coupled with assessment of a suppliers quality syste

、ms against the appropriate Part of BS 5750. Enquiries as to the availability of third party certification schemes are forwarded by BSI to the Association of Certification Bodies. If a third party certification scheme does not already exist, users should consider approaching an appropriate body from

、r disposal, by means of one operating cycle. These requirements apply in addition to the general requirements specified in BS 2745-1:1993. Clause 14 gives additional information to be supplied by the purchaser, if required by the manufacturer. Ventilation ducting is outside the scope of this Part of

、 BS 2745, but as it is an essential part of a total system, guidance for the purchaser has been included in Annex E of BS 2745-1:1993. 2 References 2.1 Normative references This Part of BS 2745 incorporates, by reference, provisions from specific editions of other publications. These normative refer
