、 2006, Uncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI BS 1103:1989 ii BSI 11-1999 Foreword This British Standard has been prepared under the direction of the Textiles and Clothing Standards Policy Committee. It supersedes BS 1103:1957 which is withdrawn. BS 1103 specifies a range of woven fabrics suitable for the manuf

、acture of wrapped rubber hoses. In this revision, the principal changes from BS 1103:1957 are the metrication of the standard and the rationalization of requirements in SI units. Appendix A contains cross-reference information between the fabric references used in this edition of BS 1103 and those u

、sed in BS 1103:1957. Many properties, e.g. colour, handle, appearance and details of additional design features, cannot be specified objectively and are therefore beyond the scope of this British Standard. Public sector purchasing authorities may be able to supply standard patterns which cover these

、 properties and may serve to resolve any ambiguities of description. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immun

、ity from legal obligations. In particular, attention is drawn to Statutory Instrument 1986 No. 26, The Textile Products (Indications of Fibre Content) Regulations 1986. Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside front cover, pages i and ii, pages 1 to 4, an inside back cover a

、989 BSI 11-19991 1 Scope This British Standard specifies constructional details and performance requirements for a range of woven cotton fabrics suitable for the manufacture of wrapped rubber hoses. NOTEThe titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover.

、2 Definitions For the purposes of this British Standard the definitions given in BS 6189 apply. 3 Manufacture 3.1 Weave The fabrics shall be of plain weave. 3.2 Size Where size is used, the size content of the fabric shall be not more than 5.0 % when determined in accordance with BS 4032. NOTEThe si

、ze should contain nothing which might adversely affect the application of rubber to the fabric or which might adversely affect the strength of the fabric during the hose manufacturing processes (which include the application of heat and pressure). 4 Construction and performance The fabrics shall com

NOTERepresentative samples for assessing compliance should be selected by the purchaser. 5 Conditioning and testing atmosphere Conditioning and testing shall be carried out in the standard temperate atmosphere specified in BS 1051, i.e. a relative humidity of 65 2 % and a temperatu

、re of 20 2 C. Specimens shall be conditioned by exposing them for at least 24 h in the conditioning atmosphere and shall be tested without removing them from this atmosphere. 6 Marking Each piece or roll of fabric shall bear the following particulars, e.g. on an attached label: a) the name, trade ma

、rk or other means of identification of the manufacturer or supplier; b) the number and date of this British Standard, i.e. BS 1103:19891); c) the fabric reference (see Table 1); d) the nominal width and length of the piece or roll. 1) Marking BS 1103:1989 on or in relation to a product represents a

、manufacturers declaration of conformity, i.e. a claim by or on behalf of the manufacturer that the product meets the requirements of the standard. The accuracy of the claim is therefore solely the responsibility of the person making the claim. Such a declaration is not to be confused with third part
