4、1999 National foreword This British Standard is the English language version of EN 12386:1998. The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted to Technical Committee CII/59, Chemicals for drinking water treatment, which has the responsibility to: aid enquirers to understand the text; present t

5、o the responsible international/European committee any enquiries on the interpretation, or proposals for change, and keep the UK interests informed; monitor related international and European developments and promulgate them in the UK. A list of organizations represented on this committee can be obt

6、ained on request to its secretary. The United Kingdom did not support this standard at the CEN Enquiry stage and voted against its acceptance at the Formal Vote stage. The principal UK objection were as follows. a) No information has been provided on the preparation of the test solution or the calcu

7、lation of the result for the determination of iron, in order to apply the method referred to in5.2.2.4 which is intended for the analysis of water. b) The requirements for toxic substances in Table 2 are expressed in milligrams per kilogram of the product whereas the results of the determinations de

8、scribed in 5.2.3 will be in micrograms per litre of test solution. c) The standard additions technique is unnecesary for the determination of arsenic, antimony and selenium because any matrix interference is removed by conversion of the elements to gaseous hydrides. Additional information Article 8

9、of the Council of the European Community Directive 80/778/EEC relating to the quality of water intended for human consumption requires Member States to ensure that substances used in the preparation of drinking water do not cause any contravention of the maximum admissible concentrations prescribed

10、in annex 1 to the Directive. This requirement is given effect in England and Wales by regulation 25 of the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 1989 (similar provisions apply in Scotland and Northern Ireland). Regulation 25 makes provision for attaching conditions of use to chemicals which are a

11、uthorized for use in public water supplies. Details of conditions of use are contained in the Secretary of States List of Approved Products published by the Drinking Water Inspectorate, Floor 2/A1, Ashdown House, 123 Victoria Street, London SW1E 6DE. 29、n force. 1 Scope This European Standard is applicable to copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate used for treatment of water intended for human consumption. It describes the characteristics of copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate and specifies the requirements and the corresponding test methods for copper (II)

30、 sulfate pentahydrate. Copper sulfate pentahydr

39、ate dehydrates partially at 29 8C and entirely at 250 8C. The pH value of an aqueous solution with a concentration of 10 g/l CuSO4 is in the range 3,5 to 4. 4 Purity criteria Limits have been given for impurities and toxic substances where these are likely to be present in significant quantities fro

40、m the current production process and raw materials. If a change in the production process or raw materials leads to significant quantities of other impurities or by-products being present, this shall be notified to the user. 4.1 Composition of commercial product The content of copper sulfate pentahy

41、drate shall not be less than 98 % by mass %(m/m). 4.2 Impurities and main by-products The product shall conform to the requirements specified in Table 1. 44、t relevant because the raw materials used in the manufacturing process are free of them. 5 Test methods 5.1 Sampling Observe the general recommendations of ISO 3165 and take account of ISO 6206. Prepare the laboratory sample(s) required by the relevant procedure described in ISO 8213. 5.2 Analyses A

45、ll reagents shall be of a recognized analytical grade and the water used shall conform to the appropriate grade specified in EN ISO 3696. 5.2.1 Main product NOTEFor routine method see annex C. 5.2.1.1 Principle The copper content is determined electrolytically. 5.2.1.2 Reagents 5.2.1.2.1 Nitric acid

46、 concentrated, r = 1,40 g/ml. 5.2.1.2.2 Sulfuric acid concentrated, r = 1,84 g/ml. 5.2.1.2.3 Ethanol, solution 95 % (V/V). 5.2.1.3 Apparatus Ordinary laboratory apparatus and glassware, together with the following. 5.2.1.3.1 Direct current supply. 5.2.1.3.2 Tared, perforated platinum cylinder cathod

47、e. 5.2.1.3.3 Platinum wire anode. 5.2.1.4 Test sample Mix a 500 g sample thoroughly and place approximately 100 g of this material in a properly stoppered glass container. 5.2.1.5 Procedure Weigh out a test portion of approximately 5 g of copper sulfate pentahydrate as rapidly as possible and transf

48、er quantitatively. To a tall-form 400 ml beaker, dissolve the test portion in 350 ml water and then add 10 ml H2SO4(5.2.1.2.2). Allow the solution to cool to room temperature. Deposit the copper electrolytically on a tared, perforated, platinum cylinder cathode (5.2.1.3.2), with a platinum wire (5.2

49、.1.3.3) for the anode. Cover the beaker carefully with a split watch glass to prevent loss by spraying. Apply a current density of 0,5 A/dm2of cathode area until deposition is complete. The cathode area equals gross area of inside of cylinder, including perforations. It is customary to conduct this operation overnight. When the solution is colourless, wash down the cover glass, electrodes and sides of beaker, raising the level of the liquid slightly, and continue the electrolysis for about 15 min, noting whether or n
