8、his British Standard shall be used in conjunction with BS 2S 500, Sections 1 and 6. 1.2 The thickness of the sheet and strip shall be in accordance with BS 2S 500, Table 1 for material which has been finally hot rolled prior to heat treatment, or in accordance with Table 2 for material which has bee

9、n finally cold rolled prior to heat treatment. 1.3 Sulphur printing or deep etching tests. Samples shall be selected in accordance with BS 2S 500, 1.8.2.1. 2 Process of manufacture The material shall be manufactured by an electric process unless otherwise agreed between the manufacturer and the purc

10、haser in accordance with BS 2S 500, 1.3.1. 3 Chemical composition The steel shall contain: 4 Surface dressing The material shall be overall dressed in accordance with BS 2S 500, 1.5.1. 5 Condition The material shall be supplied in the softened and descaled condition. 6 Final heat treatment Softening

11、 shall be carried out by heating at a temperature between 1 000 C and 1 100 C and cooling in air or quenching in oil or water. 7 Mechanical properties The mechanical properties obtained from test pieces selected and prepared in accordance with the relevant requirements of BS 2S 500 shall comply with

12、 the following: 1) Tensile test. The values in hectobars are to be regarded as the standard. NOTEConversion factors: 1 hbar = 107 N/m2 = 0.6475 tonf/in2 = 1.02 kgf/mm2. Information on SI units is given in BS 350, “Conversion factors and tables”, and in PD 5686, “The use of SI units”. 2) Hardness tes

13、t. The hardness of the material shall be not more than 179 HB or 190 HV. Element % min.max. The

15、 test piece shall withstand being bent cold without cracking through an angle of 180 and closed flat. 8 Intercrystalline corrosion test 8.1 A bend test piece shall be selected by the inspector to represent each batch. The test piece shall be heated for 30 minutes at a temperature of 650 10 C and coo

16、led in air. It shall then be immersed for 72 hours in a boiling solution having the following composition: 111 g copper sulphate crystals (CuSO45H2O) 98 g concentrated sulphuric acid (specific gravity 1.84) made up to 1 litre with distilled water. Precautions shall be taken during boiling to prevent

17、 concentration due to evaporation. 8.2 The test piece treated in accordance with 8.1, shall then be subjected to, and meet the requirements of, the single bend test in accordance with 7 3). 8.3 Retests 8.3.1 If any test piece fails to meet the requirements of 8.2 the inspector shall select two furth

18、er test pieces from the batch, one of which shall be taken from the item originally sampled, unless that item has been withdrawn by the manufacturer. 8.3.2 Both these further test pieces, selected and treated in accordance with 8.3.1 shall be treated in accordance with 8.1 and tested in accordance w

19、ith, and meet the requirements of, 8.2.
