、rial complies with that registered as International Designation 2014A. NOTE 2This material is suitable for conversion by the purchaser to other specified heat treatment tempers. 1 Inspection and testing procedure This British Standard shall be used in conjunction with sections 1 and 9 of the latest

、issue of BS L 100. 2 Quality of material The material shall be made from aluminium and alloying constituents, with or without approved scrap at the discretion of the manufacturer. 3 Chemical composition The chemical composition of the material shall be: 4 Condition The material shall be supplied in

、one of the following conditions, as stated on the order: a) solution treated in accordance with 5.1, straightened and aged at room temperature in accordance with 5.2 (temper designation T4); b) as rolled (temper designation F). NOTEWhen material is solution treated and aged at room temperature by th

、e purchaser, the temper designation is T42. In the case of material supplied in the T4 condition, the amount of cold work necessary for straightening shall be minimal and shall be limited to that required to produce a flat sheet. 5 Heat treatment 5.1 Solution treatment. The solution treatment shall

、consist of heating at a temperature of 505 5 C for not more than 30 min and quenching in water at a temperature not exceeding 40 C. 5.2 Ageing at room temperature. The duration of ageing at room temperature shall be not less than 5 days nor more than 10 days. 5.3 Artificial ageing. Artificial ageing

、 by the purchaser or by the manufacturer to demonstrate convertibility (see 6.3) shall consist of heating at a temperature of 175 5 C for 9 h to 12 h. NOTEIf the rate of heating is slow, the time at temperature to give the required properties is reduced. The above time at temperature differs, theref

、ore, from that specified in BS L 159, for the initial artificial ageing by the manufacturer, to take account of the faster rise times to temperature associated with the smaller heating units generally used by purchasers compared with the rise times of the large units used by the material manufacture

、rs. 6 Mechanical properties 6.1 Tensile test. The mechanical properties obtained from test pieces selected and prepared in accordance with the relevant requirements of BS L 100 shall be not less than the following values. NOTEInformation on SI units is given in BS 3763 “The International Systems of

、units (SI)” and BS 350 “Conversion factors and tables”. 6.2 Hardness test. The value of X shall be as shown in the following table. 6.3 Convertibility 6.3.1 If test samples from the material, delivered in the condition specified in clause 4 a), are artificially aged in accordance with 5.3 (temper de
