SCOPE This specification defines the performan

3、ce requirements for corrosion resisting finishes when applied to zinc plating and zinc/zinc alloy substrates. 2 APPLICATION This specification was originally released to define the requirements for colorless, black, yellow, and olive drab chromium finishes when applied to zinc plating and zinc/zinc

4、alloy substrates. The colorless chromium finish is also referred to as a clear, bright, or silver chromium finish. The bronze and olive drab chromium finishes offer maximum corrosion resistance. NOTE: Prolonged heating of the chromium finish above 65 C may produce excessive dehydration of the chromi

5、um finish resulting in a reduction of the corrosion resistance. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 PROCESS The chromium finish may b

6、e produced by any method which ensures coatings in accordance with the requirements of these specifications. 3.3 FINISH The chromium finish shall be continuous and uniform in appearance with acceptable adhesion and shall be the color as indicated in the title of the specification unless otherwise sp

7、ecified on the Engineering Drawing. NOTE: The color and iridescence of the chromium finish is related to film thickness. Chromium finished parts must comply with the “Freedom from leachable chromium“ requirement of FLTM AQ 106-02. 3.4 SIGNIFICANT SURFACES Corrosion test requirements apply to those a

9、onents shall be tested in accordance with ASTM B 117. After the specified minimum test time, without using supplementary magnification, there shall be no white corrosion present on any significant surface. A3 Iridescent yellow 48 h 3.5.1 Conditioning (ASTM B 201) Before testing, a chromium finished

10、component must be aged at room temperature for a minimum of 24 hrs following the chromium treatment. 5. GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is provided for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of this specification. 5.1 SIGNIFICANT SURFACES Unless otherwise specified on the Engineering Drawing, significant surfaces are defined as those surfaces of the finished part that: Are directly visible and/or visible by reflection when the finished part is assembled in position, and/or Can be the source of corrosion products directly visible or visible by reflection.
