、I GENERAL MOTORS ENGINEERING STANDARDS I Materials and Processes - Paint I PRIMER SURFACER - HIGH SOLIDS, HIGH BAKE FOR ENAMEL 9984068 1 SCOPE. This specification covers the requirements for the typical 25 minutes at 163-C metal temperature bake, ther- mosetting, sandable, high solids, solvent-borne

、 primer surfacer. It is applied by spraying and may be subsequently topcoated with acrylic enamel or waterborne color coat. The primer surfacer is intended to provide a smooth, adhesion pro- moting coating over previously applied primers such as cathodic E-coat. Some use may also be as a blackout co

、lor in unexposed areas (i.e. underhood or underbody). These coated surfaces have additional requirements set forth in the specifica- tions for subsequent coatings. 2 REFERENCED STANDARDS. 4、ts not listed in this specification. The requirements listed below shall be met on all critical surfaces of the part or as designated by the applicable product engineer- ing documents. 3.1 RESTRICTED AND REPORTABLE CHEMICALS (GMlOOOM). The color match, color standards, and color hiding panels must be approved by the responsible engineer. 4 SUPPLEMENTAL

、INFORMATION. 4.1 APPLICATION AND BAKE The material must be capable of being applied by all common conventional spray equipment. The typical bake for these surfacers is 25 minutes at 163 C metal temperature. Baking within the range allowed by these process specifications shall have no effect on produ

、ct durability. The supplier must provide complete data showing the viscosity-temperature relationship and circulation stability characteristics of the material. 4.2 PANEL PREPARATION. Guidelines for the qualifica- tion procedure are given in the GM4356M specification. The engineering group responsib

、le for coordinating the material development should always be contacted prior to preparation of panels and initiation of tests to determine if the test program should deviate in any way from the specified GM4356M and plant applications. 4.2.1 A sufficient number of panels should be prepared to accom

Pretreatment and priming of panels will be established at the beginning of the test pro- grams, All bakes refer to substrate temperature in gas fired ovens. 4.3 SUBMISSION PACKAGE. Two (2) submission pack- ages shall

、be prepared for distribution. One (1). package should be prepared for GM NAO Paint Engineering and the other for documentation retention to insure corporate product compli- ance with GM standards. Exposure and accelerated weathering test panels shall be retained by the supplier and be available for

、review as long as the product is in production. The submis- sion packages shall contain a submission letter, panel preparation data, test data, product data sheet and key process control information. The package shall be dated and signed by the responsible Paint engineer, acknowledging that the test

It will be the responsibility of the supplier to insure that the material is not exposed to temperatures during shipment which would cause the material to fail to meet any of the requirements of this specification. 6 INlTlAL SOURCE A

、PPROVAL. No shipment shall be made by any supplier until representative initial production samples have been approved by engineering as meeting the requirements of this specification. 6.1 Completed copies of the GM Material Safety Data Sheet and Critical Material Register (available from the enginee
