Some terminology and certain conventions are not identical with those used in British Standards. Paragraph 2 of clause 2, Scope, is a re

For the purposes of this British Standard the scope of this specification is limited to those markings referred to as “mandatory” in the IEC text. The “supplementary” markings should be regarded as informat

The Technical Committee has reviewed the provisions of IEC Publication 534-1 and ISO Publications 2084, 2229, 2604 and 5208, to which reference is made in the text, and has decided they are acceptable for use in

、ation requires that information denoting significant parameters of the valve be located on the valve. The methods of marking the information, based upon provisions of ISO Standard 5209, are described in this standard. 2 Scope This standard specifies mandatory and supplementary markings of control va

、lves. Some mandatory markings may be inappropriate for some valves of very special design, and some supplementary markings may be appropriate only to specific types of control valves. It is recommended that the marking of all valves conform to this standard whenever possible unless otherwise agreed

、between manufacturer and purchaser. Mandatory markings shall be located in such a way that markings remain permanently. Mandatory markings shall be integral with the valve body or on a plate (distinct from an identification plate) securely fixed to the body. The location of supplementary markings is

、 also specified. Usually these are on an identification plate. This Part 5 supersedes Clause 7 of IEC Publication 534-1: Industrial-process Control Valves, Part 1: General Considerations. 3 Definitions All of the definitions given in Clause 2 of IEC Publication 534-1, shall apply with the following

、additions: 3.1 nominal size (DN) a numerical designation of size which is common to all components in a piping system other than components designated by outside diameter. It is a convenient round number for reference purposes and is only loosely related to manufacturing dimensions. Nominal size is

、designated by the letters “DN” followed by the appropriate number from the following series: 10; 15; 20; 25; 32; 40; 50; 65; 80; 100; 125; 150; 200; 250; 300; 350; 400; etc. 3.2 nominal pressure rating (PN) nominal pressure rating is designated by the letters “PN” (also referred to as the pressure n

、umber) followed by an appropriate number from the following series: 2.5; 6; 10; 16; 20; 25; 40; 50; 64; 100; 150; 250; 420 it is a numerical designation which is a convenient round number for reference purposes the maximum working pressure is dependent on the conditions of use together with the type

、 of material selected, and reference must be made to the appropriate pressure/temperature rating tables NOTEThe PN ratings are based on recommendations of ISO/TC 5/SC 2, ISO/TC 67/SC 2 and CEN/TC 74. PN 2.5, PN 6, PN 10, PN 16, PN 25 and PN 40 ratings are based on the flange system designated in ISO

、 Standard 2084. PN 20, PN 50, PN 64, PN 100, PN 150, PN 250 and PN 420 ratings are based on the flange system designated in ISO Standard 2229. 4 Specification of marking 4.1 Marking of ratings 4.1.1 The marking of ratings corresponding to ISO Standard 2084 shall be as follows: PN 2.5; PN 6; PN 10; P

、N 16; PN 25; PN 40. 4.1.2 The marking of ratings corresponding to ISO Standard 2229 shall be as follows: Class 125 and Class 150 shall be marked PN 20 (see Note 2); Class 250 and Class 300 shall be marked PN 50 (see Note 2); Class 400 shall be marked PN 64; Class 600 shall be marked PN 100; Class 90

、0 shall be marked PN 150; Class 1 500 shall be marked PN 250; Class 2 500 shall be marked PN 420. NOTE 1Control valves may be marked with the appropriate “Class xx” as an interim measure on existing designs until such time as the classification recommended by ISO is confirmed. NOTE 2Cast-iron contro

、l valves rated Class 125 and Class 250 have bolting dimensions identical to Classes 150 and 300, respectively. 4.2 Location of markings Table 1 shows data, both mandatory and supplementary, which are appropriate to the marking of control valves. 4.2.1 Mandatory markings on the valve body Markings wh

、ich are listed in Table 1 as mandatory markings shall be integral with the body or shall be on a plate securely fixed to the body, unless sufficient space is not available (see Sub-clause 4.2.4). Mandatory markings on the body include Items 1 to 5 of Table 1 which apply to all control valves, and It

、nges or end connections Items 9 and 10 in Table 1 shall be marked only on the flanges or end connections, as applicable. 4.2.3 Supplementary markings Markings listed as supplementary markings in Table 1 shall be marked on a plate which may be positioned at any convenient location on the valve. If ma

、rkings relate to characteristics likely to be changed by the user it is desirable to make the plate removable. Supplementary markings shall be used as appropriate to the design, or as agreed between manufacturer and purchaser. Markings not listed in Table 1 which are appropriate to a valve may be ad

、ded as supplementary markings as agreed between manufacturer and purchaser. 4.2.4 Available space Where the physical size of a control valve governs the amount of space available for marking, control valves smaller than DN 50 may omit the mandatory markings on the body in the order 1, 6, 3 should th

、e available space preclude their inclusion on the body. In such cases, the markings shall be included on the plate described in Sub-clause 4.2.3. 4.2.5 Additional markings Additional markings may be used at the option of the manufacturer provided they do not conflict with any of the specified markin

、gs described above. A manufacturer having complied with the requirements listed above is not precluded from marking any item additionally in a place other than that specified. For example, a marking appearing on the body may also be repeated on the plate described in Sub-clause 4.2.3. 4.2.6 Safety-r

、elated markings Control valves which have undergone special treatment, such as valves for use with oxygen, valves for nuclear service, etc., should be identified by an appropriate marking. 5 Marking symbols It is usually necessary due to space limitations to use abbreviations for many materials empl

、oyed in the manufacture of control valves. Wherever possible it is preferable to use ISO references, which may be found in the various parts of ISO Standard 2604. NOTEAs an interim measure, it is permissible to use symbols which are based on national usage, but which have international recognition.

、A typical example would be “CF8M” or “316” used for the specification of any 18 % Cr, 10 % Ni, 2.5 % Mo type of stainless steel.
