8、00 c I JAPANESE INDUSTRIAL STANDARD JIS P 8140: 1998 Paper and board- Determination of water absorptiveness- Cobb method Introduction This Japanese Industrial Standard has been prepared based on the second edition of IS0 535, Paper and board - Determination of water absorptiveness- Cobb method, with

9、out any modification in technical content, except below stated specified content. Summary of different points on specified content 0 Standards in JIS are supplemented in normative references. The definition on contact time is supplemented. 0 The figures of apparatus and implements (an example of tes

10、ter) are supplemented. The range of gram- mage of blotting paper for apparatus and implements is enlarged. For sampling of test pieces, the method stated in JIS is supplemented. 8 When making pretreatment of test piece, the method stated in JIS is supplemented. 0 In procedures, standard conditions i

11、n JIS are supplemented. The number of times of test trials is clearly specified in procedures. In this Standard, the places underlined with dotted line are those which are not mentioned in corresponding International Standard. 1 This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the testing method for wate

12、r absorp- tiveness of paper and board when one surface of non-absorptive paper and board is exposed to water for a specified period of time. 23、 removing excess water 5 Test piece Test pieces shall be taken from the test paper which was sampled according to the method specified in _._-_-. JIS P 8110 or IS0 186. Pretreat the test paper under the standard condition specified in-JJS-F-Slll-or IS0 187, and cut test pieces into sufficient size t

24、o exceed the diameter of the cylinder by at least 10 mm from any edge, with avoiding unusual places such as creased or with wrinkles. Keep the test pieces lest hands or fingers should touch the place to be tested, and avoiding from folds, creases, cracks or other defects. 6 Operation Operation shall

25、 be carried out under the standard conditions specified in JIS _-_._- P 8111 or IS0 187. The temperature of water for test shall be the same with that at standard condition for test. Dry the edge of a cylinder where the test piece will touch, and dry also the surface of a rigid base. Measure the mas

26、s of the test piece to the nearest 1 mg, and place it on the rigid base with face to be tested upward. Place the finished edge of the cylinder on the target surface of the test piece, and fix sufficiently with a clamp so as not to leak water between the test piece and cylinder. Pour 100 ml+ 5 ml of

27、water (when 100 cm2 test area was taken) into the cylinder to make 10mm water depth. Simultaneously, start a timer. Use new water every time test is carried out. After the timer runs, within the “Time at which excess water is removed” specified in Table 1, pour off the excess water kept in the cylin

28、der taking care not to moisten place other than the area to be tested. Quickly unclamped the cylinder from the test piece, put the test piece on a dried blotting paper previously placed on a flat hard base, with the tested surface upward. Within the “Time at which blotting is carried out” specified

29、in Table 1, place a dried blotting paper on the test piece. Using a metal roller, roil it two rollings (one recipro- cating motion) without applying any pressure, to eliminate excess water. Immediately after blotting, fold the test piece with the wet side inside, and weigh swiftly its mass to the ne
