4、is specification is to establish acceptable durability and quality levels for the finish on Navistar products and to define requirements and physical properties of the various materials used in the painting operation. 1.1 Restricted Chemical Substances Effective January 1, 2007, all product supplied

5、 to the requirements of this specification must comply ith the requirements of the CEMS B-50 specification. w 2.0 INTRODUCTION C EMS G-5 is divided into eight parts as follows: Part IA - Product Finishing Requirements Part V - Primers Part IB - Paint Material Requirements Part VI - Paints for Repair

6、 and Service Part II - Topcoats Part VII - Deleted Part III - Chassis, and Miscellaneous Paints Part VIII - Engine Paints Part IV - Casting Sealers Part IA - Outlines classes of finish for Navistar parts, components, and products. It defines requirements and describes physical properties, which gove

7、rn durability, corrosion protection, and overall appearance quality. Part IB - Outlines the procedure for specifying paint materials covered in the CEMS G-5 specification. Parts II thru VIII - Details specific liquid properties and dry film requirements for all paint materials used by the Company. T

8、he dry film requirements described in these seven sections apply to painted test panels evaluated under laboratory conditions. 11、5 4.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS Unless otherwise specified, the latest issue of all referenced standards shall apply. 13、, durability and application. 5.1 Class of Finish The Class of finish for specific products will be established by appropriate design engineering personnel in conjunction with the Industrial Design and Materials Engineering Groups. This specification will form the basis for uniform inspection standa

14、rds for both manufactured and purchased parts. All materials utilized must conform to the requirements for the appropriate Class and Grade for the finish specified. All deviations from this specification must be approved by the appropriate Materials Engineering Department. 6.0 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS T

15、his specification is not intended to limit or specify the metal pretreatment or painting process but note that iron phosphate is not recommended for zinc or aluminum coated substrates. When a chemical surface pretreatment is required, any process such as zinc or iron phosphate, acid wash prime or co

16、nversion coating applied by spray, immersion, or steam cleaning which results in finished parts meeting the requirements of this specification will be approved. However, all systems from new vendors or deviations to this specification or changes in currently approved systems must be approved by Mate

17、rials Engineering. 6.1 Finish Requirements All parts, whether painted by Navistar or purchased, will be finished with paints which meet all dry film requirements of the CEMS G-5 grade specified unless otherwise designated on the part drawing or purchase order. The resultant coating must match the ap

Parts, such as bumpers, wheels, hubcaps, etc., formerly designated as Truck Group Class C finish, and all existing drawings, blueprints, purchase orders, etc., whi

28、ch specify Class C finish will meet the requirements of Class A finish. Class C finish will not be used on new drawings and/or part releases. (3) Minimum film thickness for cathodic E-Coat primer, is 0.8 mils (20m) for steel, 0.6 mils (15m) for aluminum. (4) Class F - Primers used for Class F and Cl

29、ass G must be compatible for recoating with Grades -81H and/or -81W engine topcoats. (5) Comparison test: Orange peel comparison standards are available from Advanced Coatings Technologies, Inc., P.O. Box 401, 273 Industrial Drive, Hillsdale, MI 49242 (6) Minimum film thickness requirements for BC/C

30、C are: Base Coat 0.8 mils (20 m); clear coat 1.5 mils (38 m). Basecoat must pass black/gray Morest hiding. (7) For painted wheels - top coat film thickness will not exceed 2.3 mils (58 m). (8) See International CEMS GT-29. (9) Test on as-cast parts prior to machining. Castings are not to be scribed

31、and will be rated visually per SSPC-VIS- 2, controlled by the Society for Protective Coatings, to assign the appropriate “Rust Grade and Distribution“. A minimum rating of Grade 7 is required. 7.0 QUALITY All painted surfaces will be free from sags, runs, dirt, seediness, orange peel, dry spray, den

32、ts, scratches, pits, gouges, and weld spatter when viewed with the unaided eye. The supplier should be capable of providing statistical evidence that products supplied to the requirements of this specification have been produced using manufacturing processes which are in statistical control and are

33、competent to meet the requirements of this specification. The purchaser may request results of the suppliers quality control tests on each shipment. 8.0 METHODS OF TESTS Unless otherwise specified, tests will be run in accordance with the following test procedures except the finished part or section

34、s of the finished part, are to be used in place of the test panels. Suppliers are required to assume all patent liability. 2008 by Navistar, Inc. 9.0 SOURCE APPROVAL AND QUALITY CONTROL 9.1 Supplier Requirements All suppliers to NAVISTAR are required to be registered to ISO 9001 Q

38、uality System Requirements. NAVISTAR will also accept TS-16949 registration as long as the supplier can also fulfill all AIAG PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation and approval requirements. Suppliers must maintain their certification with an accredited registrar and must furnish cop

39、ies of registration certificates to their Corporate Buyer upon request. 9.2 Approval Parts supplied against contracts or purchase orders citing this specification shall be equivalent in all respects to those samples, which were approved by the purchaser. No changes in formulation or processing pract

40、ices are permitted without approval. In the event that changes in material, properties, processing practices, construction, color, or labeling of the product are required, the supplier shall notify Materials Engineering, Truck Development and Technology Center and Purchasing and Supplier Development

41、 of the proposed change(s). Test data indicating conformance to all requirements of this specification, test samples, and new or amended or updated Material Safety Data Sheet(s) (MSDS), in accordance with CFR Title 29, Part 1910 shall be submitted with the request for change. 9.3 Process Control The

42、 supplier shall either perform and report results of tests on specific lots of parts produced using ISO 9001 or TS-16949 guidelines, or provide statistical evidence of the lot having been produced in a state of statistical control and with a process capable of providing all required properties. The

43、part supplier and the plant metallurgist and/or the quality control manager of the using International plant may determine testing and reporting requirements on specific products. 10.0 DESIGNATION OF DRAWINGS AND PURCHASE ORDERS Finishing requirements on drawings and purchase orders will include col
