1、AEROSPACE MATERIAL SPECIFICATION AMS 2409G Issued1948-05 Revised2001-02 Superseding AMS 2409F Plating, Immersion Tin For Aluminum Alloys 1.SCOPE: 1.1Purpose: This specification covers the engineering requirements for producing a thin tin coating on aluminum alloys by an immersion process. 1.2Applica

2、tion: This process has been used typically to prevent scuffing and galling of aluminum alloy parts, but usage is not limited to such applications. 1.3Safety - Hazardous Materials: While the materials, methods, applications, and processes described or referenced in this specification may involve the

3、use of hazardous materials, this specification does not address the hazards which may be involved in such use. It is the sole responsibility of the user to ensure familiarity with the safe and proper use of any hazardous materials and to take necessary precautionary measures to ensure the health and

4、 safety of all personnel involved. 2.APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS: The issue of the following documents in effect on the date of the purchase order forms a part of this specification to the extent specified herein. The supplier may work to a subsequent revision of a document unless a specific document issue

5、 is specified. When the referenced document has been canceled and no superseding document has been specified, the last published issue of that document shall apply. 11、ature of bath, pH, solution concentration, and immersion time shall be controlled to provide a deposit meeting the requirements of 3.5. 3.3Preparation: Parts shall have clean surfaces free of waterbreak prior to immersion in the plating solution. Parts shall be transferred to plating solution withou

12、t drying after rinsing. 3.4Procedure: 3.4.1Parts shall be immersed in the plating bath and shall remain in the bath until reaction is essentially complete, as indicated by virtual cessation of evolution of hydrogen. 3.4.1.1Parts shall not be allowed to dry during the entire sequence of operations un

13、til completion of the final rinse. 3.4.1.2After plating, parts shall be thoroughly rinsed and dried. 3.5Properties: Plated tin shall conform to the following requirements: 3.5.1Thickness: The plate thickness shall be approximately 0.0001 inch (2.5 m), determined in accordance with ASTM B 487, ASTM B

14、 567, ASTM B 568, or other method acceptable to purchaser. 3.5.2Adhesion: Plated parts shall show no blisters after being heated in a circulating-air oven to 300 F 15 (149 C 8) and held at heat for not less than three hours. -,-,- AMS 2409GSAEAMS 2409G - 3 - 3.5.2.1When acceptable to purchaser, adhe

15、sion may be determined by scratching the plated surface with a sharp point. When examined at 4 to 6X magnification, there shall be no evidence of flaking of the plating (See 4.3.3). 3.6Quality: Plated tin, as received by purchaser, shall be smooth, continuous, adherent to basis metal, uniform bright

16、 gray in appearance, and free from blisters and other imperfections detrimental to usage of the plating. Slight staining or discoloration is permissible. 4.QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS: 4.1Responsibility for Inspection: The processor shall supply all samples for processors tests and shall be respons

17、ible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that processing conforms to the specified requirements. 4.2Classification of Tests: 4.2.1Acceptance Tests: Adhesion (3.5.2 or 3.5.2.1, as applicab

18、le) and quality (3.6) are acceptance tests and shall be performed to represent each lot. 4.2.2Periodic Tests: Thickness (3.5.1) and tests of cleaning and plating solutions (See 8.4) are periodic tests and shall be performed at a frequency selected by the vendor unless frequency of testing is specifi

19、ed by purchaser. 4.2.3Preproduction Tests: All technical requirements are preproduction tests and shall be performed prior to or on the initial shipment of plated parts to a purchaser, when a change in material and/or processing requires approval by the cognizant engineering organization (See 4.4.2)

20、, and when purchaser deems confirmatory testing to be required. 4.3Sampling and Testing: Shall be not less than the following; a lot shall be all plated parts made of the same aluminum alloy of the same part number plated in the same solution(s) in not longer than eight consecutive hours and present

21、ed for processors inspection at one time: 4.3.1For Acceptance Tests: As shown in Table 1. AMS 2409GSAEAMS 2409G - 4 - 4.3.2For Periodic Tests and Preproduction Tests: Sample quantity shall be at the discretion of the processor unless otherwise specified by purchaser. 4.3.3When plated parts are of su

22、ch configuration or size as to be not readily adaptable to the specified tests or when nondestructive testing is not practical on actual parts, or it is not economically acceptable to perform destructive tests on actual parts, separate test specimens of the same generic class of alloy as the parts r

23、epresented, cleaned and plated with the parts represented may be used. 4.4Approval: 4.4.1The process and control factors, a preproduction sample, or both, whichever is specified by purchaser, shall be approved by the cognizant engineering organization before production parts are supplied. 4.4.2The p

24、rocessor shall make no significant change to materials, processes, or control factors from those on which the approval was based, unless the change is approved by the cognizant engineering organization. A significant change is one which, in the judgement of the cognizant engineering organization, co

25、uld affect the properties or performance of the parts. 4.4.3Control factors shall include, but not be limited to, the following: Precleaning procedure Bath composition limits Bath temperature limits Bath pH limits Method used for adhesion tests Periodic test plan. 27、n accordance with the specified requirements and that they conform to the other technical requirements. This report shall include the purchase order number, lot number, AMS 2409G, part number, and quantity. 4.6Resampling and Retesting: 4.6.1If the results of any acceptance test fails to meet specifi

28、ed requirements, the parts represented may be stripped by a method acceptable to the purchaser that does not roughen, pit, or adversely affect part dimensions, pretreated, coated, supplementary treated, if specified, as defined herein, and tested. Alternatively, all parts in the lot may be inspected

29、 for the nonconforming attribute, and the nonconforming parts may be stripped by a method acceptable to purchaser that does not roughen, pit, or adversely affect part dimensions and treated as above. 4.6.2If the results of any periodic test fail to meet the specified requirements, the process is non

30、conforming. No additional part shall be coated until the process is corrected and new specimens are coated and tested. Results of all tests shall be recorded and, when requested, reported. Purchaser shall be notified of all parts coated since the last acceptable test. 5.PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY: 5.1

31、Packaging and Identification: 5.1.1Plated parts shall be handled and packaged to ensure that the required physical characteristics and properties of the plating are preserved. 5.1.2Packages of plated parts shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with commercial practice and in compliance with a

32、pplicable rules and regulations pertaining to the handling, packaging, and transportation of the parts to ensure carrier acceptance and safe delivery. 6.ACKNOWLEDGMENT: Processor shall mention this specification number and its revision letter in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders.

33、 7.REJECTIONS: Parts on which the plating does not conform to this specification, or to modifications authorized by purchaser, will be subject to rejection. -,-,- AMS 2409GSAEAMS 2409G - 6 - 8.NOTES: 8.1A change bar ( l ) located in the left margin is for the convenience of the user in locating area

35、, nor in specifications that contain editorial changes only. 8.2The parts manufacturer should ensure that surfaces of metal parts supplied to the processor are free from blemishes, pits, tool marks, and other irregularities that will affect the quality of the finished parts. Defects and variations i

36、n appearance that arise from surface conditions of the substrate, such as porosity, scratches, or inclusions, that persist in the finished plate despite observance of industry accepted plating practices should not be considered as cause for rejection. 8.3Part manufacturing operations such as heat tr

37、eatment, forming, machining, joining, and media finishing, can affect the condition of the substrate for plating, or if performed after plating, could adversely affect the plating. The sequencing of these operations should be specified by the cognizant engineering organization and is not controlled

38、by this specification. 8.4ARP4992, Periodic Test Plan for Process Solutions, may be used to satisfy the requirements for control of processing solutions. 8.5Dimensions in inch/pound units and the Fahrenheit temperatures are primary; dimensions in SI units and the Celsius temperatures are shown as the approximate equivalents of the primary units and are presented only for information. 8.6Purchase documents should specify not less than the following: AMS 2409G Part number of parts to be coated Quantity of parts to be coated.
