Proposed Fourth Edition of UL 1238 a) Editorial changes to clarify requirements, update references, and the addition of new gloss

2、ary terms; b) Addition of new test requirements for secondary circuits, tests for motors, abnormal conditions of control equipment, fl exing test, absorption of moisture grounding circuit resistance, internal enclosure push test, component push test, knockout test, and leakage current test; c) New m

3、arking and instruction requirements; and d) New Annex A (Electrochemical Potentials), Annex B (Flammability Tests), and Annex C (Leakage Current Test Instrument). Proposed Fourth Edition of UL 1238 RATIONALE The attached table shows the new paragraph reference, old paragraph reference, and a brief description of the proposed changes and rationale behind the change. 10、 wording used in UL Standards. 3.13.1The paragraph was revised to provide an explanation of the defi nitions in the glossary. 3.23.2 Changed the word defi nitions to abbreviations for clarity. 3.33.3The wording in the paragraph changed from beyond to that falls between for clarity. 3.43.4Wording was

11、 revised to clarify the types of circuits seen in these products. 3.5 New defi nition added for Class 2 Transformer. This term was used in the previous edition of the standard but was never defi ned. 3.63.5No changes 3.71.5 The defi nition for the term Device was previously in paragraph 1.5, but has

12、 been moved to 3.7 for clarity. 3.8 New defi nition added for enclosures and the different types of enclosures that will be required by the standard. These enclosure types were not defi ned previously, although many of the requirements were in place. 3.9 New glossary term and defi nition for Fluid C

13、onfi ning Part has been added. This term was used previously in the standard but was never defi ned. 3.103.6No changes 3.11 New glossary term and defi nition of Hazardous Locations has been added. The concept of classifi ed areas was always addressed in accordance with the National Electrical Code.

14、This defi nition was not included in the standard, and has been added for explanation of what the term covers. 3.12 New glossary term and defi nition for Insulation Classes has been added. This is a new concept and was not defi ned previously. 3.13 New glossary term and defi nition for Isolation has

15、 been added. This term was used previously in the standard, but was never defi ned. 3.14 New glossary term and defi nition for Pollution Degree has been added. This term was used previously in the standard, but was never defi ned. 4.1, 4.2These paragraphs were deleted as other paragraphs within this

23、 4.3.55.2.6This paragraph was revised to add the requirement for an interlock on covers that the user is instructed to open and behind which a hazard exists. As such, the hazard shall be removed by the use of an interlock switch that will shut down the power to the area accessed by the user or to th

43、astic material. 5.1.2This new paragraph covers the requirements for nonmetallic fi re enclosures. The clause makes reference to the overall mass of the unit and specifi es either a V-1 rating (for products less than 18 kg) or a 5V rating (for products greater than 18 kg). 5.2.1This new paragraph cov

44、ers the requirements for all plastic materials and makes reference to the fl ammability requirements in new Annex B. All plastic materials that are not covered by specifi c requirements shall be rated V-2 or HF-2. If the materials are not Recognized, they shall be tested for fl ammability in accorda

45、nce with Annex B. 5.2.2 This new paragraph covers the specifi c requirements for printed wiring boards. Printed wiring boards shall be rated V-1 minimum. The intent of this requirement covers the spacings in secondary circuits and ground. If the printed wiring board is rated V-1 minimum, we do not n

46、eed to address secondary spacings or secondary dielectrics. 5.2.3This new paragraph covers components that are exempt from fl ammability requirements. 5.2.4 This new paragraph covers the requirements for air fi lter assemblies and the fl ammability of the foam material of the air fi lter. 5.3.1 This

47、 new paragraph specifi es that all plastic parts used outside of the fi re enclosure shall be rated HB minimum. 6.17.1No changes 6.27.2The wording of this paragraph has been revised to clarify the requirements. In addition, reference to a marking or operating instruction was added to describe the le
