Addition of requirements to address remotely controlled receptacles in which up to six lengths of fl exible cord may exit a RPT enclosure and terminate in a single cord connector. 5. 3、BALLOTS AND COMMENTS DUE: January 21, 2008 For your convenience in review, proposed additions to existing requirements are shown underlined and proposed deletions are shown lined-out. 1. Revision of Paragraph 1.1 to Remove the Word Temporary from the Scope. RATIONALE Proposal submitted by: Jonel Bar

4、bu, UL UL proposes to revise paragraph 1.1 to remove the word temporary from the scope is in order to clarify the intended use of the product and address a clerical error. All other instances of the word temporary were removed from the standard at the same time that the title of the standard was cha

5、nged from Temporary Power Taps to Relocatable Power Taps to represent the intended use and clarify that this product is not necessarily for temporary use only. PROPOSAL 1.1 These requirements cover cord-connected, relocatable power taps rated 250 V AC or less and 20 A AC or less. A relocatable power

6、 tap (RPT) is intended only for indoor use as an temporary extension of a grounding alternating-current branch circuit for general use. 2. UL no longer offers Relocatable Power Taps intended for use in General Patient Care Area or Critical Patient Care Areas to be investigated under the requirements in the Standard for Medical Electrical Equipment, Part 1: General Requirements, UL 60601-1 and the Standard for Safety Re

9、quirements for Medical Electrical Systems, IEC 60601-1-1. UL has issued a new Outline of Investigation for Specialty Purpose Relocatable Power Taps, Subject 1363A to cover Component Relocatable Power Taps that are intended for use with medical equipment in General Patient Care Area or Critical Patie

10、nt Care Areas. PROPOSAL 1.8 This standard does not cover RPTs intended for use with medical equipment. Medical equipment is typically intended for use in General Patient Care Areas or Critical Patient Care Areas as defi ned by Article 517 of the National Electrical Code for Health Care Facilities. R

11、PTs intended for such use shall comply with the requirements of the Standard for Safety of Medical Electrical Equipment, Part 1: General Requirements, UL 60601-1 and the Standard for Safety Requirements for Medical Electrical Systems, IEC 60601-1-1 Outline of Investigation for Special Purpose Reloca

12、table Power Taps, Subject 1363A. 3. Addition of Requirements for Timers for Use in RPTs. RATIONALE Proposal submitted by: Jonel Barbu, UL UL proposes to add requirements for timers for use in RPTs to document the present practice of accepting timers to be employed in RPTs, since the standard does no

13、t prohibit the use of timers and similar components. PROPOSAL 1.11 An RPT may employ additional devices such as integral appliance timer(s) to control all or some of the receptacles. Products employing additional devices shall comply with the Standard for Clock-Operated Switches, UL 917 or the Stand

14、ard for Solid-State Controls for Appliances, UL 244A. 1.12 Products that employ timer(s) as specifi ed in 1.11 shall be marked as specifi ed in 40.20 to warn the user of the possible hazards. 40.20 RPTs as described in 1.11 and 1.12 shall be marked: “WARNING” and the following or the equivalent. “Ti

15、mer could turn-on unexpectedly without the user being present. To Reduce the Hazardous Condition Unplug the appliance that is plugged into the receptacle(s) controlled by the timer before servicing.” Lettering shall not be less than 3/21 inch (2.4 mm) high. This marking shall be located adjacent to

16、the timer so as to be visible during use. 4. Addition of requirements to address remotely controlled receptacles in which up to six lengths of fl exible cord may exit a RPT enclosure and terminate in a single cord connector. RATIONALE Proposal submitted by: Jonel Barbu, UL Presently, UL 1363 does no

17、t cover RPTs with lengths of fl exible cord as part of the construction. This proposal will address the need for providing power to multiple power supplies with integral chargers etc. without blocking adjacent outlet. The length of the fl exible cord is limited to 1-1/2 feet in order to limit DECEMB

(To view the fi gure, select Topic 4 in the CSDS work area home and then Documentation under the Action menu on the left-hand s

20、ide.) PROPOSAL 1.13 These requirements also cover RPTs that incorporate one attachment plug and a single length of fl exible cord terminated in an enclosure in which receptacles may be mounted. Up to six lengths of fl exible cord, not exceeding 1-1/2 feet in length, may exit the enclosure with each

21、length terminating in a separate, single cord connector. These RPTs may, in addition, be provided with fuses or other supplementary overcurrent protection, switches, suppression components and/or indicator lights in any combination, or connections for cable, communications, telephone and/or antenna.

22、 3.3RELOCATABLE POWER TAP (RPT) A RPT consists of an one attachment plug cap and a single length of fl exible cord terminated in an enclosure in which are mounted one or more receptacles receptacles may be mounted. Up to six lengths of fl exible cord, not exceeding 1-1/2 feet in length, may exit the

23、 enclosure with each length terminating in a separate, single cord connector. A RPT may also be provided with suitable supplementary overcurrent protection, switches, and indicator lights singly or in any combination. A RPT containing three or more receptacles may also employ a transient voltage sur

24、ge suppressor (TVSS) and/or an electromagnetic interference (EMI) fi lter. 11.2.1 Where the power-supply cord or fl exible cord passes through an opening in the enclosure, a smooth, well-rounded surface shall be provided to protect the cord from damage. 12.1 Strain relief shall be provided so that a

25、 mechanical stress on a power-supply cord, cord connector, or fl exible cord is not transmitted to terminals, splices, or interior wiring. See Strain Relief Test, Section 30. 13.2 All of the receptacle outlets of a RPT shall have the same current rating and shall be of the grounding type. They are n

26、ot prohibited from being of the same or different slot confi gurations (locking and non-locking) or employing a spring-actuated latching mechanism for locking a mated attachment plug in place after the blades have been inserted into the female contacts. 13.7 The cord connectors that is employed in a

27、n RPT shall be molded-on or assembled-on to the fl exible cord. The cord connector shall be the grounding type and shall comply with the requirements in the Standard for Attachment Plugs and Receptacles, UL 498 or the Standard for Cord Sets and Power Supply Cords, UL 817. The fl exible cord employed

28、 shall be of the type as specifi ed in 11.1.1 and shall have the conductor size, voltage and current rating as specify in Table 11.1 and 11.1.5. 5. Editorial Revisions.
