、val of dust and other airborne particles from air circulated mechanically in equipment and systems installed in accordance with the Standards for Installation of Air Conditioning and Ventilating Systems, NFPA 90A (Other Than Residence Type), and for Installation of Warm Air Heating and Air Condition

、ing Systems, NFPA 90B (Residence Type). 1.2 Since the combustibility and smoke generation of an air fi lter unit, after a period of service, depends upon the nature and quantity of the material collected by the fi lter, the test requirements of this standard, for classifi cation purposes, apply only

、 to air fi lter units in a clean condition. Consequently, when fi lters are susceptible to the accumulation of combustible deposits, it is intended that maintenance and inspection practices should be followed as proposed in Appendix B of NFPA 90A. 2 Classifi cations 2.1 Air fi lter units covered by

、this standard are classifi ed as follows: a) Class 1 Units Those that, when clean, do not contribute fuel when attacked by fl ame and emit only negligible amounts of smoke. b) Class 2 Units Those that, when clean, burn moderately when attacked by fl ame or emit moderate amounts of smoke, or both. 3

、Units of measurement 3.1 Values stated without parentheses are the requirement. Values in parentheses are explanatory or approximate information. 4 Undated References 4.1 Any undated reference to a code or standard appearing in the requirements of this standard shall be interpreted as referring to t

SEPTEMBER 2, 2004AIR FILTER UNITS - UL 9004 -,-,- UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION OR DISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL 5 General 5.1 Air fi lter units shall not contain unbonded asbestos fi ber materials. PERFORMANCE 6

、 Performance Requirements 6.1 A Class 1 air fi lter unit shall not produce fl ame or sparks when subjected to the Flame-Exposure Test, Section 7. During the fl ame-exposure test, the Class 1 air fi lter unit shall not cause the development of an area of more than 16.1 cm2(2-1/2 square inches) as mea

、sured below the smoke-density time curve. 6.2 When tested as specifi ed in Section 8, Spot-Flame Test, the upstream face of a Class 1 fi lter shall not continue to fl ame after removal of the test fl ame. 6.3 A Class 2 air fi lter unit shall not produce fl ame or extensive (25 or more) sparks which

、are sustained beyond the discharge end of the test duct when subjected to the fl ame-exposure test and shall not cause the development of an area of more than 58 cm2(9 square inches) as measured below the smoke-density time curve. 6.4 An adhesive material used for coating the fi ltering medium or ot

、her part of an air fi lter unit shall have a fl ash point of not less than 163C (325F) as determined by the Test Method for Flash and Fire Points by Cleveland Open Cup, ASTM D92. 7 Flame-Exposure Test 7.1 The fl ame-exposure test apparatus is to consist of an air duct provided with means for supporting a sample air fi lter unit and to expose the air fi lter unit to an igniting fl ame under controlled conditions of air velocity. The apparatus is to provide means for ob
