3、in Battery Operated Tools and UL 45 Effective Date This bulletin serves as a reminder of the June 1, 2002 effective date for portable electric tools as specified in the Preface of the UL 745 series of standards. This bulletin supersedes information regarding DC switches in battery operated tools in
4、the July 30, 1998 bulletin. DC Switches In an effort to move manufacturers toward a uniform test and follow-up program utilizing Recognized DC switches, a bulletin was released on July 30, 1998 to all subscribers notifying them that new product submittals would need to employ switches tested to the
5、appropriate switch standard. It was anticipated that all DC switches would be UL Recognized Components, or comply with the appropriate switch standard. UL has received input that current standards for switches used in battery operated tools do not fully address the concerns of the tool category. Com
6、munication with UL representatives for the switch industry has been initiated to address the concerns of the tool industry. Once applicable requirements have been incorporated in the appropriate switch standard, or the current requirements are found to be applicable, then UL will propose a recommend
7、ation to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and tool industry regarding DC switch evaluations to the UL 745 series of standards. Accordingly, DC switches in battery operated tools that are in compliance with current end-product testing and follow-up testing will continue to be accep
8、ted. Currently, UL 45 and UL 745 series of standards allow for Unlisted DC switches to be subjected to a 50 cycle locked rotor switch test and a 6,000 cycle switch test. UL 45 Effective Date As a reminder, all new product submittals after June 1, 2002 must comply with the requirements in the UL 745
9、series of standards. This is stated in the Preface under the UL Effective Date at the front of the UL 745 series of standards. Copyright Underwriters Laboratories Inc. 11、sts. A tool requiring these tests would be considered to be significantly modified, thus considered a new product and no longer Listed to UL 45. This will require testing and evaluation to requirements outlined in UL 745. Questions regarding interpretation of requirements should be directed to the r
