Aim, Significance and Current Researches If there is a resource that can be used as long as slightly processed, one should try to do it. English original fi

9、lm is such an inexhaustible resource. Using English original film to teach middle school students English, one can break through the limitations of materials, greatly enrich the knowledge of all aspects of the learners, thereby, significantly improve teaching effectively. A great number of scholars

10、have studied English films in different aspects. For example, in the direction of translation,Wangjun and Ke Shuping have analyzed that the translation of film dialogues is a newly- rising research field, focusing on analyzing the methods of translation of film dialogues from the perspective of prag

11、matics in their Analyses on the Methods of Translation of Film Dialogues, from the Perspective of Pragmatics; in the direction of culture, author Ma Jingxin in his “Analysis of the Cultural Perspective of the English Original Film Role“ has discussed the original movie is the reproduction carrier of

12、 culture and customs , and the original English by watching movies that is a flexible approach to learn to understand the true culture and customs of English-speaking countries, and is also very direct and straightforward. In his paper, social customs, cultural traditions, religion, culture and non-

13、English language and culture and other aspects of the film reflects some of the cultural phenomenon .Whats more how to improve listening in the classroom, and how to strengthen the effect of hearing have become the researching direction of a number of scholars. But the study about films in middle sc

14、hool students English is not completed and rich. As to English hearing ability, English film has an irreplaceable role in its advancement. This article aims to demonstrate how to use the English original film to teach middle school students. Help students to create a good atmosphere to learn English

15、 so that students in this semi-authentic language environment for language learning improve their English listening and speaking ability, experience Western cultural differences, thereby enhance foreign language learning and using communication skills, whats more, enable students in English language

16、 learning and personal growth. 1.2 Main Ideas English original film is a visual, hearing, speaking in one language and culture carrier, with vivid real scene, language variety, pure voice characteristics. Watching the original English movies, will help one obtains knowledge of the language in the co

17、ntext of the image, and master communication method, which is an important means to improve English language skills. Moreover, with the introduction of the English original movies and original films in a large number of network communication speed, the time that people spend on watching the original

18、 films greatly increased, and the process of watching American TV has not only stay in the 2 storyline and content knowledge, many experts say the process of film viewing is becoming an open language learning process .The language of the original films with its unique charm and visual effects to hel

Watching movies in English but also helps one understand the western cultural practices, traditional customs, taboos, historical development and peoples way of thinking .Therefore, this article will discu

20、ss how to use the original films to stimulate middle school students interest s in learning English; How to choose the middle school students the good English original films; how to use the soundtrack and role-playing; and Language acquisition theory 1.3 Current state of English learning for the stu

21、dents in the secondary school In traditional English teaching, the teachers strictly control over the class, which leads to the students have little chance to practice English. The students express opinions only on their teachers questions or in their exercise books. They are unwilling to speak Engl

22、ish as they think their English is poor and if they make some mistakes while communicating, they may feel losing face. They are shamed at making mistakes. In such a teaching process, the main participant is the teacher, not the students. In addition, the students play a passive role while the teache

23、r plays an active role in English class. Under such kind of situation, the students interests in English learning cannot be aroused and they will feel tedious while having class. As a result, the teaching aims cannot be achieved as the original purpose. The system and target concept of the new Engli

24、sh curriculum standards define the features of English education for secondary school students under the overall planning of the basic education and stand by the side of the students. Moreover, the features for the new English curriculum standards are basic, divers and flexible. For the first time,

25、the new English curriculum standards create the conditions for students to achieve their individual, from time to space. The new English curriculum standards reflect the people-oriented concept and develop peoples comprehensive quality as the premise to improve the comprehensive ability of using lan

26、guage. However, according to an investigation on students interest of English learning to check what kind of teaching form are mostly welcomed by them showed that 45% study English on the purpose of further education, and 42.5% of them study English for their own interest and on the purpose of enric

27、hing themselves, from which we could find that the English education in China is facing a more and more severe situation and the aim that the students fully develop themselves through the new English curriculum standards cannot be achieved. I write this thesis under the aim of continually adjusting

28、teachers to the requirements of the new curriculum. 3 1.4 Definition of film Film is also known as a kind of motion pictures, which is a modern art composed of active photography and slide shows; which is also a kind of integrated arts containing drama; literature; photography; painting; music; danc

29、e; writing; the art of sculpture; architecture and other arts, but it also has its own features. These films demonstrate bright magnificent Western culture, deepens the impression of the students learning book knowledge, promotes the students of English and c

34、ultural knowledge. 2.3 Improving listening and speaking ability By providing real-life scenes, English movie makes students widely access target language. According to Krashens Second Language Acquisition Theory, second language learning is an acquisition instead of learning. Teachers should provide

35、 students enough understanding input, which is to enable students to contact a large number of the target language. And the difficulty is required a little more than the students present level. For non-English-speaking English learners, the exciting dialogues; the standard pronunciation and intonati

36、on in English, which are good training material; extremely favorable to improving students listening and speaking ability, whats more, they can expand students vocabulary; improve their thinking; 4 comprehension. Film selections in English teaching 3.1 Good dialogue and standard pronunciation Not all original films in English can be used to make educational videos, some English pronunciation of the role in the movie is not very standard, and for example, Raj says in the TV series-The Big Bang in Ind

38、ian-English. The features of Indian accent are heavy accent; fast speed; tongue running. They pronounce consonant /r/ in a trilling way, which is hard to be understood. And in Purple, almost all roles use the Black English. One of the differences between African American English and standard English

39、 is phonological feature: for some double vowels are reduced to unit sounds, for example,/a /was simplified into /a / (this is also in many United States characteristic of southern varieties of English). The vowel of “boil”, which is pronounced / / in Standard English is reduced to a unit sound, esp

40、ecially in front of the /l/ and its pronunciation sounds similar to “ball“. 41、le length and positive content Due to limited teaching hours every time, the time of playing the movie is too long, which makes students feel visual fatigue and lack of novelty. Therefore the best choice of the movie is the 15-20 minutes brilliant fragment, because now the class time duration of the

42、 middle school students is 40 minutes, and according to the research of modern educational psychologists middle school students time for focusing on class is 15-20 minutes. The educational psychologists advocate teachers not to teach new knowledge for more than 20 minutes. First let students see the

43、 film for 15-20 minutes of film, and then use the remaining time for the video application. This allows students to maintain freshness, and passion for much longer. Nowadays Chinese film market will introduce many United States television films, but some films and TV series in order to achieve busin

44、ess purposes, so the film makers add some porn, and violence in the films. So teachers should select films which are associated with the textbook topics. Teachers should delete the films with violence; blood; horror; porn; over complex; only sensory stimulation; or twist bizarre. Moreover the movies

45、 should be based on student-centered topic teaching mode. Because a striking feature of the middle school student textbooks is that each unit is built around a subject, such as sports, culture, music, food, war, fairy tale legends, man and nature. Through a certain amount of language input and the s

46、tudent can train their comprehensive ability. And movie content should be related to life and students 5 healthy values, so that they can have correct perspective and attitude to interpret the British and American cultures and real life 3.3 Suitable for student comprehension Early effects of childre

47、ns language learning interest, which help the students lay a solid foundation for future English learning. So teachers should chose movies according to the levels of the development and understanding of students in different ages .When teachers play the original English movies, they can choose films

48、 with easy themes, simple screen on language to demonstrate the strong principles of animation. Like the Garfield; the Lion King; the Madagascar, and the Cuisine of the Rat King. These films will not only stimulate students interest in English learning, but also can boost their confidence. Let them
