14、ne (MCU) paints intended to be used primarily for the protection ofiron and steel against exterior atmospheric corrosion. They are best applied by conventionalair or airless spraying, but are also suitable for application by brush or roller.These paints are intended primarily for use as a paint syst

15、em for the protection of iron andsteel against corrosion involving wet and damp areas, high humidity, coastal/marine andindustrial fallout. Some of these products are suitable for burial and immersion.Polyurethane paints are in general more suitable for use in those applications where it isdesirable

16、 to r睷etain colou眮r and glos抵s in additi晸on to prov眮iding corro捯sion resistance.Moisture cure urethane paint, specified in this Standard as zinc-pigmen?ted primer, MIOintermediate and finish coat paint, is described as Paint Reference Nos 38, 39 and 40respectively in AS/NZS 2312 and may be used with

17、 the appropriate systems MCU1and MCU2.NOTES:1Unmodified MCU paints are defined in ASTM D16 as Type II.2Appendix A contains recommendations and advice on information that should be provided bythe purchaser at the time of enquiry or order.3Additional information on the use and application of moisture

It forms part of a series of product Standards for paints referred toin AS/NZS 2312.1.3 REFERENCED DOCUMENTSA list of the documents referred to in this Standard is contained in Appendix D.1.4 DEFINITIONSFor the purpose of this Standard, the definitions given in AS/NZS 2310 and those

20、belowapply.COPYRIGHT5AS 3750.1820021.4.1 Finish coatMoisture cure urethane finish coat consisting essentially of an aliphatic prepolymer, to cureas a polyurea polymer, designed for use over zinc-pigmented primer or MIO intermediatepaints. It is classed as Paint Reference No. 40 in AS/NZS 2312. Finis

21、h coat products maycontain MIO pigmentation.1.4.2 MCU acceleratorAn additive to accelerate cure and re-coat times and usually added in small quantities.These substances are consumed by the reaction.1.4.3 MIO intermediate paintMIO based intermediate paint consisting essentially of an aromatic prepoly

22、mer, to cure as apolyurea polymer to be used as an intermediate coat over zinc-pigmented primer paint. It isclassed as Paint Reference No. 39 in AS/NZS 2312.1.4.4 Moisture cure urethane tarMoisture cure urethane paint consisting essentially of an aromatic prepolymer, to cure as apolyurea polymer, co

23、ntaining refined tar and MIO. It is used as the primer and/orintermediate coat and/or topcoat in a moisture cure urethane paint system, and is applied at125175 m dry film thickness in a single coat. Particularly suitable for use with potablewater storage, sewage and other immersed applications.NOTE:

24、 Moisture cure urethane tar can be used in conjunction with zinc-pigmented primer, MIOintermediate and finish coat products; however, for the uses of this type of product, themanufacturers recommendations should be consulted.1.4.5 PaintSingle compo睷nent prod眮uct as supp抵lied by th晸e manufac眮turer.捯?

25、1.4.6 Sealer/primerMoisture cure urethane paint consisting generally of an aromatic prepolymer, to cure as apolyurea primer, to be used as a sealer/primer over hand- or power-tool-cleaned steelsurfaces, galvanizing or thermal sprayed coatings. Sealer/primer is applied at 50 10 mand is designed to be

26、 overcoated by MIO intermediate and finish coat paint.NOTE: For use of this type of product the manufacturers recommendations should be consulted.1.4.7 Zinc-pigmented primerA moisture cure urethane primer consisting essentially of an aromatic prepolymer, to cureas a polyurea polymer, containing not

27、less than 85% zinc in the dry film. It is classed asPaint Reference No. C38 in AS/NZS 2312.1.5 SAFETY PRECAUTIONSMoisture cure urethane paints contain a very small proportion of free isocyanate monomer,less than a two-pack polyurethane, and an organic solvent. The level of isocyanate mayincrease wit

28、h the use of an MCU accelerator. Refined tars may contain very smallproportions of hazardous materials.NOTE: The manufacturers safety recommendations should be followed (see also Appendix B).COPYRIGHTAS 3750.1820026SECTION 2 MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS2.1 GENERALPaint shall comply with the requirements of

29、 Clauses 2.3 to 2.5 inclusive. These propertiesand requirements are summarized in Table 1.2.2 CONDITIONS OF TESTUnless otherwise specified in this Standard, the following test conditions shall apply:(a)The test panel material and its preparation shall be in accordance with Appendix E.(b)The type and

30、 size of test panels shall be as specified in Table 1.(c)Conditions for testing shall be in accordance with AS/NZS 1580.101.5.(d)The spreading rate of the relevant paint applied by brush, roller or spray shall resultin a dry film thickness, as determined by AS/NZS 1580.108.1, of(i)zinc-pigmented pri

31、mer.75 10 m;(ii)MIO intermediate paint.75 10 m;(iii)finish coat paint.75 10 m;(iv)sealer/primer.50 10 m; and(v)M睷CU tar.眮.抵.晸.眮.捯.?.150 15 m.(e)Conditions for air-drying shall be in accordance with AS 1580.101.1.2.3 LIQUID PAINT2.3.1 Condition in containerWhen each component is tested in accordance

32、with AS/NZS 1580.103.1 at the time ofdelivery from the manufacturer/supplier, it shall be free from gel, coarse particles, skins andforeign matter.2.3.2 Volume solidsWhen determined in accordance with AS 1580.301.2, utilizing air drying conditions of 7 dunder the routine conditions of AS/NZS 1580.10

33、1.1 in lieu of a 3 h drying period of 105C,the volume solids of the mixed paint shall be greater than 60% and within 5% of themanufacturers product specification.2.3.3 Storage properties2.3.3.1 Degree of settlingWhen stored at 23 3C in sealed, unopened containers for 12 months from the date ofmanufa

34、cture, the rating for the settling, when determined in accordance withAS/NZS 1580.211.1 shall be not less than 4.2.3.3.2 Re-incorporation after storageWhen stored at 23 3C in sealed, unopened containers for 12 months from the date ofmanufacture and tested in accordance with AS/NZS 1580.211.2, the pr

35、oducts shall bereadily re-incorporated and, when mixed, shall produce a paint of uniform consistency freefrom lumps, gel and other defects.COPYRIGHT7AS 3750.1820022.3.4 ConsistencyWhen thoroughly incorporated, the mixed paint shall have a consistency, determined inaccordance with AS/NZS 1580.214.1 o

36、r AS/NZS 1580.214.5, within the range specified bythe manufacturer.2.4 APPLICATION PROPERTIES2.4.1 GeneralApplication properties shall be assessed using vertical steel test panels prepared inaccordance with Appendix E. When applied in accordance with the manufacturersrecommended methods of applicati

37、on, the applied film shall not run, streak, sag or exhibitundesirable roughness or grittiness or bubbling when dry when tested by the appropriatemethod (see Clauses 2.4.2 to 2.4.4).2.4.2 BrushingWhen thinned, if necessary, and applied to a test panel (see Clause 2.2) in accordance withAS/NZS 1580.20

38、5.1, the test paint shall exhibit satisfactory brushing properties andfreedom from defects.2.4.3 RollingWhen thinned, if necessary, and applied to a test panel (see Clause 2.2) in accordance withAS/NZS 1580.205.3, the test paint shall exhibit satisfactory rolling properties and freedomfrom defects.2.4.4 SprayingWhen thinned睷, if neces眮sary, and a抵pplied to 晸a test pane眮l (see Cla捯use 2.2) in? accordance withAS/NZS 1580.205.2 or AS/NZS 1580.205.4, as appropriate, the test paint shall exhibit goodspraying properties and not clog the sp
