2、 to expose thehorror and violence hidden underneath the narrow anddirty streets in London.The heroofthisnovelwas OliverTwist,an orphan,whowas thrown into a world full of poverty and crime. Hesufferedenormous pain,such as hunger,thirst,beatingand abuse. Whilereading thetragicexperiencesofthelittle Ol
3、iver,I was shockedby his sufferings. I feltfor the poor boy, but at the same time I detested theevil Fagin and the brutal Bill. To my relief, as waswritteninallthebeststories,thegoodnesseventually conquered devil and Oliver lived a happylife intheend. One ofthe plotsthatattractedme mostis that after
4、 the theft, little Oliver was allowed torecover in the kind care of Mrs. Maylie and Rose andbegan a new life. He who is without goodness isan utterly worthless person. On the contrary, as thefamous sayinggoes, The fragrancealwaysstaysinthehand that gives

As a result,they show no sympathy to those who are in trouble andseldom offer to help others. On the other hand, theyattach importancetomoney and benefit.Intheiropinion, money is
9、the only real object while emotionsand morality are nihility. If they cannot get profitfrom showing their kindness , they draw back whenothers are faced with trouble and even hit a man whenhe is down. They are one of the sorts that I reallydetest.Francis Bacon said in his essay, Goodness, of allvirt
10、ues and dignities of the mind, is the greatest,being the character of the Deity, and without it, manisa busy,mischievous,wretchedthing, no betterthana kind of vermin.That is to say a person without goodness is destinedto lose everything.
