As the ever fast growing of the world, more and more adults who are out of school or college and those who want to be more competitive in job searching, are willing to turn Adult ed

2、ucation, This article main focuses on the Adult education in Britain and China, to see the development and situation of their Adult education, find their similarities and differences, thus to get a general idea about this education. 3、ces Beginning in The Nineteenth Century, British saw an Overview of British Adult Education in the Twentieth Century when Local Education Authorities and Adult Education was publican , The building of the University Adult Education, Residential Colleges and Non-Residential Settlements and Centers de

4、pendent Working Class Education and” the Open University“ improved its Adult education. In a comprehensive study of a phase of the social and educational history of Great Britain, the development of formal adult education is in its variety, and at the same time traces the influence of other less for

5、mal modes of instruction, the various agencies of adult education in Britain includes public lectures, adult schools, mechanics institutes, churches, working mens colleges, universities, extension courses, and the Workers Educational Association, which have contributed to the development and perpetu

6、ation of adult education in Great Britain. The narrative extends from the middle Ages to the 20th Century and embraces all these movements and institutions -the pulpit, the press, public libraries, cultural societies, reformation, renaissance, Puritanism, science, and radical opposition broadcasting

7、. The born of new China opened a new chapter in Chinas education, at the same time; adult education was come into life. The period between 1949 and 1966 saw the take-off and development of New Chinas adult education. However, affected by the 10-year internal disturbances known as the “Cultural Revol

8、ution“, adult education could not be normally conducted from 1966 to 1976. Since 1979 when China entered a phase of modern construction, adult education was restored quickly and developed vigorously. In 1987, the Chinese Government officially recognized that “adult education is one important compone

9、nt of education in our country“, and “a necessary prerequisite for the contemporary social, economic development and the progress of science and technology“. “The Guidelines for Educational Reform and Development in China“ promulgated in 1993 pointed out:“ Adult education is a new education system w

10、hich plays an important role both in the development of conventional school education toward life-long education and in the continuous enhancement of the national quality and in the promotion of economic, social development“. Adult schools usually consist of the following: education radio and televi

11、sion universities, institutions of higher learning for workers and peasants, colleges for management personnel, education institutes, independent correspondence colleges, adult education offered by regular institutions higher education (departments of correspondence, evening universities, advanced t

12、raining for teachers), TV education via satellite as well as the system of examinations for self-taught students at higher level. From the above, it can be concluded that the similarities on Adult education in Britain and China are lying in the participants and some forms of this education. Otherwis

13、e, it is also clear that the difference of Adult education in Britain and China is lying on the history and the level and the real situation. First, in respect of similarities, the two nations, Britain and China both have played a great attention on Adult education, Britain firstly put it into effec

14、t in The Nineteenth Century, when there was a booming period of British economy, similarly, China started its Adult education as soon as the build of new China .Second, Both countries Adult education are initiated by the government, with the help of all sectors from the society. Britain, the establi

Third, both are taking the advantage of its high technology, which helped to the use of education radio and television universities In respect of differences, first comes to the history, though both have a relatively long time of Adult educat

Britain started its Adult education in the Nineteenth Century, while China in the middle of Twentieth (period between 1949 and 1966) .Second, the level of this education are different, Britain are more advanced and comprehensively developed in this sector, for its long history and experience an

18、d studies of Adult education, Third, religion forces do not participate in educational system in China,while Britain dose.
