Such a declaration is not to be confused with third party certification of conformity, which may also be desirable. 7 Performance When tested in accordance with annex A, rivets shall have shear and t

、I 19975 Annex A (normative) Test methods to determine the shear loads and tensile loads of swaged collar grooved rivets A.1 Shear test A.1.1 Apparatus A.1.1.1 Test fixture, comprising two plates of equal nominal thickness, axially aligned and assembled into a single lap joint by means of the test ri

、vet, as shown in figure A.1. The diameters of the test holes are as given in table A.1. The plates are of alloy steel, hardened and tempered to within the range of 46 HRC to 50 HRC with a surface finish not exceeding 3.2 mm. The test fixture shall be assembled as follows. Install the rivet in accord

、ance with the manufacturers recommendations using the tool supplied by the manufacturer. Ensure the total thickness of the test fixture does not exceed the minimum grip length of the particular rivet to be tested. For testing of short rivets see A.1.3. NOTE. Test plates should be discarded when the

、clearance holes accommodating the test rivet are no longer round, show signs of wear or damage, or exceed the maximum diameter given in table A.1. Table A.1. 37、19.119.720.7 22.222.923.8 25.426.127.0 28.629.430.2 34.935.538.1 A.1.1.2 Tensile testing machine, capable of applying a tensile load through self aligning grips and fitted with a cross head, the free running speed of which shall not be less than 7 mm/min or greater than 13 mm/min. A.1.2 Procedure As

、semble the test fixture between the jaws of the tensile testing machine, taking care to ensure that the tensile load will be transmitted in a straight line through the shear plane of the test rivet. Maintaining a free running speed within the specified range, apply a tensile load to the test fixture

、 and increase the loading until failure of the rivet occurs. Record the maximum load applied (measured in kN) as being the shear load of the rivet. NOTE. If hydraulic testing machines are used care should be taken to locate the fixture at the centre of the piston. A.1.3 Testing of short rivets For r

、ivets with maximum grip lengths shorter than 2t, the combined thickness of the two equal thickness test plates shall be equal to the maximum grip length of the particular rivet to be tested. Testing of short rivets shall be in accordance with A.1.1 and A.1.2. The evaluation of the test results is de

、pendent upon whether the test plates can sustain the ultimate shear load of the rivet to be tested. Consequently, test recording for short rivets has the following categories. a) If the test plates remain intact until the rivet fails, the maximum load recorded is the ultimate shear load of the test

、rivet. If this load is equal to or above the minimum shear load, specified in table 3 for the diameter of rivet under test, the rivet has passed the test. b) If the rivet remains intact and the test plates fail at a load equal to or above the minimum shear load, specified in table 3 for the diameter

、 of rivet under test, the rivet has passed the test. However, in this case the ultimate shear load of the rivet can not be determined. c) If the rivet fails before the minimum shear load is reached, specified in table 3 for the diameter of rivet under test, the rivet has not passed the test. NOTE. I

、f the rivet remains intact and the plates fail at a load less than the minimum shear load, specified in table 3 for the diameter of rivet under test, the acceptability of the rivet may be agreed between the purchaser and manufacturer. A.2 Tensile test A.2.1 Apparatus A.2.1.1 Test fixture, comprising

、 two plates of equal nominal thickness, axially aligned and assembled into a single lap joint by means of the test rivet, as shown in figure A.2. The diameters of the test holes are as given in table A.1. The plates are of alloy steel, hardened and tempered to within the range of 46 HRC to 50 HRC wi

、th a surface finish not exceeding 3.2 mm. The test fixture shall be assembled as follows. Install the rivet in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations using the tool supplied by the manufacturer. Ensure the total thickness of the test fixture does not exceed the minimum grip length of the

、particular rivet to be tested. For testing of short rivets see A.2.3. NOTE. Test plates should be discarded when the clearance holes to accommodate the test rivet are no longer round, show signs of wear or damage or exceed the maximum diameter given in table A.1.
