9、nce with the latest edition of BS S 500. Material which has been finally hot-rolled prior to softening shall satisfy the tolerances applicable to hot-rolled sheet and strip. Material which has been finally cold-rolled prior to softening shall satisfy the tolerances applicable to cold-rolled sheet an

10、d strip. 1.3 Sulphur printing or deep etching tests. Samples shall be selected in accordance with the latest edition of BS S 500. 2 Process of manufacture The material shall be manufactured by an electric process unless otherwise agreed between the manufacturer and the purchaser in accordance with t

11、he latest edition of BS S 500. 3 Chemical composition The steel shall contain: 4 Surface dressing The material shall be overall dressed in accordance with the requirements of the latest edition of BS S 500. 5 Condition The material shall be supplied in the softened condition. 6 Final heat treatment

12、Softening shall be carried out by heating at a temperature between 1 000 C and 1 100 C and cooling in air or quenching in oil or water. 7 Mechanical properties The mechanical properties obtained from test pieces selected and prepared in accordance with the relevant requirements of the latest edition

13、 of BS S 500 shall comply with the following: 1) Tensile test. 2) Hardness test. The hardness of the material shall be not more than 170 HB or 180 HV. 3) Single bend test. 15、n test 8.1 A bend test piece shall be selected by the inspector to represent each batch. The test piece shall be heated for 30 minutes at a temperature of 650 10 C and cooled in air. It shall then be immersed for 72 hours in a boiling solution having the following composition: 111 g copper sulphate

16、crystals (CuSO45H2O). 98 g concentrated sulphuric acid (specific gravity 1.84) made up to 1 litre with distilled water. Precautions shall be taken during boiling to prevent concentration due to evaporation. 8.2 The test piece treated in accordance with 8.1 shall be subjected to, and meet the require

17、ments of, the single bend test in accordance with Clause 7 3). 9 Microscopic examination for freedom from surface contamination 9.1 Sample selection 1) Sheet and strip. The inspector shall select one sample from each of 10 % of the sheets or strips from each batch. 2) Coil. The inspector shall selec

18、t one sample from each end of each coil. 9.2 Each sample selected in accordance with 9.1 shall be heated for 30 minutes at 650 C and cooled in air. A section shall then be taken from each sample and shall be mounted in such a manner that the edge of specimen is adequately supported during preparatio

19、n, and shall then be polished and etched electrolytically in 10 % oxalic acid or 10 % chromic acid. 9.3 Each section prepared in accordance with 9.2 shall be examined at a magnification of approximately 200 diameters and shall be free from carburization, oxide penetration, oxidation and other surfac

20、e or sub-surface contamination. 10 Retests 10.1 Intercrystalline corrosion. If any piece fails to meet the requirements of 8.2 the inspector shall adopt one or both of the following procedures as requested by the manufacturer. 1) Select two further test pieces from the batch one of which shall be ta

21、ken from the item originally sampled, unless that item has been withdrawn by the manufacturer. Both these further test pieces shall be treated in accordance with 8.1 and tested in accordance with, and meet the requirements of, 8.2. 2) Allow the batch to be re-heat-treated in accordance with Clause 6

22、 and tested in accordance with Clauses 7, 8 and 9. 10.2 Microscopic examination for freedom from surface contamination.
