2、tandard supersedes applicable laws and regulations. Note: In the event of conflict between the English and domestic language, the English language shall take precedence. 1.1 Scope. This standard covers the performance requirements of plastic parts used in exterior automotive applications. The parts

3、may be functional assemblies or they may be a subassembly of, or attached to, metallic, decorative or functional parts. Note: For coated (plated, painted etc.) parts, only paragraphs 4.2, 4.3, 4.4 and 4.8 are required. Additional requirements for coated or painted plastic parts, or parts which incor

4、porate metals in their construction are given in the relevant performance specifications. Note: Some paragraphs reference both, GMW test methods and local test methods; as soon as the GMW is available, it supersedes the local test method. 1.2 Mission/Theme. 6、4 GMW14093L 000 0555 GMW14162L 000 0556 GMW14688 3 Test Preparation and Evaluation 3.1 Resources. 3.1.1 Calibration.The test facilities and equipment shall be in good working order and shall have a valid calibration label. 3.1.2 Alternatives. Alternative test facilities and equipment may also be use

7、d. However, all measuring variables as specified in this specification shall be determined correctly with respect to its physical definition. 3.1.3 Facilities. As specified by the relevant Test Method. 3.1.4 Equipment. As specified by the relevant Test Method. 3.1.5 Test Vehicle/Test Piece. Unless o

8、therwise specified in the relevant test method for the property concerned, either the complete component or a section therefrom shall be used for test pieces. Unless otherwise specified in the appropriate test methods at least three test pieces shall be tested. 3.1.5.1 Test pieces shall not be teste

9、d within 72 h of manufacture. 3.1.6 Test Time. As specified by the relevant Test Method. 3.1.7 Test Required Information. As specified by the relevant Test Method. 3.1.8 Personnel/Skills. As specified by the relevant Test Method. 3.2 Preparation. As specified by the relevant Test Method. 3.3 Conditi

10、ons. 3.3.1 Environmental Conditions.Unless otherwise stated in respective test procedures, all samples shall be conditioned prior to each requirement test to GMW3221, Code A. 3.3.2 Test Conditions.As specified by the relevant Test Method. 3.4 Instructions. This standard may involve hazardous materials, operations, and equipment. This standard does not propose to address all the safety pr

12、oblems associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. 3.7 Documentation. Samples of components or material released to this standard shall be t

13、ested for conformity with the requirements of this standard and approved by the responsible GM Department prior to the start of delivery of production level components or materials. Any change to the component or material, e.g., design, function, properties, manufacturing process and/or location of

14、manufacture requires a new release of the product. It is the sole responsibility of the supplier to provide the customer, unsolicited, with documentation of any change or modification to the product/process, and to apply for a new release. If not otherwise agreed to, the entire verification test sha

15、ll be repeated and documented by the supplier prior to start of delivery of the modified or changed product. In some cases a shorter test can be agreed to between the responsible GM Department and the supplier. 3.7.1 Test Results. 3.7.1.1 Test Report. The test report shall have the same outline and

16、numbering as this test specification. 3.7.2 Deviations from this Standard. Deviations from the requirements of this standard shall have been agreed upon. Such requirements shall be specified on component drawings, test certificates, reports, etc. 4 Requirements and Procedure 4.1 Weather-Ometer Resis

17、tance (SAE J2527 / ISO 4892-1, ISO 4892-2). See Table 1 for exposure limits, a class shall be called out based upon the part application (typical examples are provided). Note: Only for unpainted parts with exposure to direct or indirect sun light. If the entire part cannot be exposed, the GM materia

18、ls engineer shall determine the location of the test samples. 4.1.1 ISO Procedure. Test as per the conditions of ISO 4892-1 and ISO 4892-2 (Xenon Arc Weather-Ometer): Inner- and Outerfilter: Borosilicate Radiant exposure: 0.50 W/m2at 340 nm Test program Cam No. 7: (102 0.5) minutes light only (18 0.

19、5) minutes light and spray Black-standard temperature: (+80 3) C 4.1.1.1 Visual Evaluation.Wash weathered specimens prior to making measurements and observations. Wash with scrubbing action, using a sponge that is saturated with a solution consisting of soap and deionized water at (+23 3) C. Exposed

20、 parts shall not exhibit any indications of surface tackiness or embrittlement, change in hardness, blooming, blistering or other factors that might affect the function or appearance of the part. The color change shall not exceed a E of ? 3.0 units. The color change shall be measured per ISO 7724-1

21、or SAE J1545 (CIELAB color space, 10 observer, metering orifice ? 10 mm, Illuminant D65, specular component included). Visual color change that is considered objectionable shall override the E measurement. Part must not exhibit objectionable color change. 4.1.1.2 Examination with Microscope (enlarge

22、ment: fiftyfold). Test pieces shall show no cracks, no pores or other damages of surface. 4.1.2 SAE Procedure. To ensure timely Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), at the discretion of the GM Material engineer, plaques or sur

28、rogate parts may be weathered instead of the actual production parts. If allowed, these plaques or surrogate parts must have been processed similarly to the production parts (e.g., injection molded, vacuum formed, grained, regrind, etc). 4.2 Resistance of Material to Heat Ageing. Test pieces shall b

29、e exposed for (168 2) h (7 days) in an air circulating oven operating at: above beltline parts (class 1, 2 and 3) (+85 3) C below beltline parts (class 4) (+75 3) C Note: This test is required for all parts, both painted and unpainted. 4.2.1 Requirement. Test pieces shall show no significant surface

30、 changes, particularly changes in color or gloss, no embrittlement, increase in hardness, no objectionable shrinkage or other changes detrimental to serviceability. 4.3 Resistance to Temperature Humidity Cycle (Dimensional Stability). Test pieces shall be assembled to jigs or formers so as to simula

31、te as closely as possible actual service conditions. The test set-up shall be reviewed by at least one of the following: Design Release Engineer, Validation Engineer or Materials Engineer. The complete test assembly shall then be subjected to the following test cycle: 4.3.1 The test cycle may be com

32、menced at any of the individual stages provided the full cycle is sequentially completed. This cycle shall be carried out two times without interruption: (17 0.5) h at (-30 3) C (72 1) h at (+85 3) C (class 1, 2 and 3) (+75 3) C (class 4) (24 1) h at (+40 3) C and (93 5) % RH (relative humidity) (7

33、0.5) h at (-30 3) C (24 1) h at (+40 3) C and (93 5) % RH (24 1) h at (+22 3) C Note: This test is required for all parts, both painted and unpainted. 4.3.2 Requirement. Test pieces shall show no cracking, crazing, appreciable color changes, discoloration, cloudiness, blistering, objectionable shrin

34、kage, deformation, loss of adhesion to the substrate between layers of the composite or other changes detrimental to serviceability. Test pieces shall comply with the dimensions specified on the drawing after completion of the test. Recommendation: Checks should be made after each stage of the two c

Test pieces shall be exposed for (168 2) h in a humidity cabinet operating at (+40 3) C and (93 5) % RH. The parts shall be evaluated

36、after conditioning to GMW3221, Code A. Note: This test is required for all unpainted. 4.4.1 Requirement. Test pieces shall show no significant surface changes, particularly changes in color or gloss, or other changes detrimental to serviceability. Test pieces shall comply with the dimensions specifi

37、ed on the drawing after completion of the test. 4.5 Scratch and Mar Resistance / Stone Impact Testing (GMW14698 / GMW14700). Note: Only for unpainted parts in direct stone impact area, e.g., grilles, fascias, etc. 4.5.1 Stone Impact (GMW14700 Method A or B). Tests shall be conducted on test pieces:

38、In the as received condition. After resistance of material to heat ageing (see paragraph 3.4). After resistance to temperature cycling (see paragraph 3.5). 4.5.1.1 Requirement. Rating of 7 or better, no cracks allowed. 4.5.2 Scratch and Mar (GMW14698). Body Trim, including body side moldings, claddi

39、ngs, wheel flares and pillar appliqus shall be subjected to the 5 Finger Scratch test per GMW14698. Test to be performed on 3 samples cut from production parts. Note: This is scheduled for replacement with GMW14688 (Ericson testing), till this replacement the requirement is valid for GMNA only. 4.5.

40、2.1 Requirement. Arm #2 (15 N tip load) shall have a rating of 3 or better and show no whitening or objectional surface defects. 4.6 Resistance to Sulfur Dioxide Staining and Hydrogen Sulfide Staining (GMW14864) Note: Only for parts near the exhaust system. Resistance to sulfur dioxide staining and

41、Hydrogen Sulfide Staining to GMW14864. 4.6.1 Requirement. There shall be no visible change of the surface which was in contact with the reagents. Test pieces shall be examined with the naked eye and the exposed area compared with the surrounding area of the test piece. 4.7 Fuel Resistance. Note: Onl

42、y for parts near the tank filler inlet. 4.7.1 Test fluids. Use Gasoline and Diesel fuels representative for the region the vehicle is marketed according to GMW14914. 4.7.2 Procedure. For each test fluid immerse the part for 10 s in the test fluid and follow with a 20 s evaporation period. Repeat the

43、 cycle 10 times. 4.7.3 Requirement.There shall be no color change, loss of bond, material degradation, or tackiness following the last 20 s evaporation period. 4.8 Impact Resistance (GMW14093). Note: Test shall be conducted on painted and unpainted components. If no specific area of the part is assi

44、gned on the drawing to meet the impact requirements, the entire part must meet these requirements. Impact resistance to GMW14093 3 / 5 J . In the as received condition. After resistance of material to heat ageing (see paragraph 3.4). After resistance to temperature cycling (see paragraph 3.5). 4.9 R

45、esistance to Dewaxing. (Transit Coating). Note: Only for parts which are waxed during production. 4.9.1 Test piece.As possible complete component otherwise section 300 x 100 mm. 4.9.2 Test wax (protective wax). GME only: L 000 0555 (solvent based) L 000 0556 (hydro based) GMNA however the natural re

46、sin must be UV stabilized and weathering must be completed on the natural resin according to the appropriate GM specification to which the resin is approved. UV stabilizer may not be added at the press; it must be pre-compounded into the base resin. Additionally, parts molded with color concentrate

47、added at the press must meet all other part requirements. Any changes in the molding process, equipment, or color concentrate product/let-down ratio will require re-certification to all of the part requirements. 4.12.2 Regrind. The percent regrind allowed per part shall not exceed the numeric value

48、following the suffix RE-symbol. If Home Scrap regrind (scrap that is reused back into the same part) is the only type to be specified for use, the letters HS should follow the numeric regrind value. The use of regrind must not preclude the part from meeting the other specified characteristics of par

49、t performance. Furthermore, in any case, - The maximum regrind content shall be limited to the % that was validated and submitted for PPAP. - The type of regrind must be of the same material that was validated and submitted for PPAP. - The regrind must be clean, dry, and free of contamination. Examples: RE50 = 50 % maximum regrind RE20HS = 20 % maximum Home Scrap regrind Note: If regrind is to be used, all test parts must be manufactured with the
