12、o Part 1 of this specification for general requirements and tests. This Part supersedes PD 6455, “Metric dimensions for l.f. cables and wires for telecommunication”, for the conductor sizes concerned and is based on IEC Publication 189-5, “Low-frequency cables and wires with p.v.c. insulation and p.

13、v.c. sheath”, Part 5, “Equipment wires and cables with solid or stranded conductors, p.v.c. insulated, screened, single or one pair”. NOTEAttention is drawn to certification facilities offered by BSI; see the inside back cover of this standard. A British Standard does not purport to include all the

16、ncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI BS 4808-3:1972 BSI 10-19991 1 Scope This British Standard gives details of construction, materials, dimensions and requirements for screened cables and screened equipment wires, all with a single solid or stranded conductor and PVC insulation. Examples of usage are: inside

17、telephone and telegraph exchanges and the internal wiring of electronic and other equipment. NOTEThe title of the British Standard referred to in this standard is shown on page 4. 2 Class The basis of the classification shown in this Part is that given in Part 2, Table 1, Column 1. Suffix letters fo

18、llowing the class numbers are explained at the foot of Table 1 and are as follows: SLM = Lapped screen and sheathed SBM = Braided screen and sheathed SB = Braided screen As defined in Part 1 of this specification, all sheathed items are designated as cables. 3 Requirements 3.1 Cables and equipment w

19、ires prescribed by this Part shall meet the general requirements of Part 1 and when tested in accordance with the methods specified in Part 1 shall meet the detailed requirements in Table 1, Table 2, Table 3 and Table 4 of this Part. 3.2 Cables and equipment wires prescribed by this Part shall be su

20、bjected to a spark test at the relevant voltage detailed in Table 2 applied to: 1) the insulated conductor; 2) the completed cable. 3.3 A tape, preferably of polyethylene terephthalate, may be applied under the screen at the option of the manufacturer. 3.4 The flammability test specified in 3.2.2 of

21、 Part 1 is not applicable. 3.5 Manufacturers identification is not required.
