、I read a piece of news recently. It is said that in Japan businessmen are selling fresh air to customers. and now it is becoming more and more popular. Why? -Fresh air is getting less and less in Japan, and so it is in our country. In fact, environmental pollution is a very serious problem the whole

、 world is facing. It is mainly caused by the waste products released from artificial substances, industrial production and increased consumption of goods. Bedsides, the use of chemical substances in agriculture also causes environmental pollution. Look at the sky, you can see that dense smoke is bei

、ng released from the high and big chimneys; those dirty and poisonous substances are flowing into the rivers that we use for drinking water and millions of tons of waste products are heaping around us. How to change this severe condition? More and more countries are trying to work out some effective

、 means to bring it under control, but no great success has been made. So , here, I am going to focus on two main environmental problems our country is now encountering and to give some of my opinion. Firstly, lets come to the soil pollutionNow first lets read a news about how city in china using the

、ir land to alleviate the condition of soil pollution.HANGZHOU, China - In one of this nations most popular tourist cities, famed for the beauty of its surrounding mountains, willow trees, lotus blossoms and ancient stone-arch bridges, a new sightseeing attraction is making its debut: the local landf

、ill. With its so-called trash tour, the landfill has attracted more than 10,000 visitors since it launched last year. There, tourists visit its trash-to-gas power plant, play environmental video games and hike in an eco-park the size of 10 football fields. Underneath that lush green park is a mounta

、in of trash generated by the citys 3 million residents more than a decade ago. To Hangzhou Environmental Group, which operates the landfill, this is just a small piece of a bigger plan to generate value from trash in a sustainable way. The company is already leading Chinas move to deal with methane,

、 a climate-harming byproduct of decaying trash, by turning it into clean energy. Now it aims to speed up the methane production cycle from years to a matter of days at the same time as cutting the need for more land to bury garbage. Garbage is a rising threat to Chinas environment. As Chinese get we

、althier and buy more modern products, many cities are finding themselves drowning in trash. The problem became so serious that it caught the eyes of no less than Prime Minister Wen Jiabao. Shortly after Wen addressed Chinas trash problem in March, a national campaign rolled out, urging cities to red

、uce their waste as well as to find ways to create value out of it. In the past, though, many such efforts have flopped. In recent years, Chinese cities have tried to build waste incinerators, aiming to burn the trash while producing electricity. The practice, while popular in Europe, isnt welcomed b

、y the Chinese public. Rising concerns about possible cancer-causing emissions led to protests against planned incinerators in many cities, including Beijing. Meanwhile, according to environmentalists, efforts to educate the public to produce less trash and separate it properly, aiming to recycle mor

、e, could take years to bear fruit. But landfill companies like Hangzhou Environmental Group see this as more of an opportunity. From the report above, we can easily see that those trash originally buried in land now are transformed into a new form of clean energy. Therefore, should we shift our mind

、 to a brand-new way of anti-pollution campaign? Should we lay more emphasis on sustainable development? The answer is quiet obvious. Now lets come to A Stronger and Clearer Clean Water Act by the USA.The Obama administrations new guidelines for the Clean Water Act are an important first step in rest

、oring vital legal safeguards to wetlands and streams threatened by development and pollution. The guidelines are opposed by the usual suspects real estate interests, homebuilders, farmers, the oil companies. They were welcomed, rightly so, by conservationists and others who have watched in despair a

、s enforcement actions dropped and water pollution levels went up. For nearly three decades, the 1972 act was broadly interpreted by the courts and federal regulators as shielding virtually all the waters of the United States from pollution and unregulated development seasonal streams and small, remo

、te wetlands, as well as lakes and large navigable waters. The basic idea was that small waters have some hydrological connection to larger watersheds and should be protected against pollution that would inevitably find its way downstream. Then came two Supreme Court decisions that left uncertain whi

、ch waterways were protected by the law. A 2001 decision suggested that the law applied only to large navigable waterways, while a 2006 ruling suggested that only waters with a “significant nexus” to navigable waterways could be protected. Those decisions plus subsequent guidance from the George W. B

、ush administration confused regulators and exposed millions of acres of wetlands and thousands of miles of streams to development. The new guidelines now restore protections to small streams and wetlands that have a “physical, chemical or biological connection” to larger bodies of water downstream.

、That is good news with the clear caveat that they are administrative guidance, with no force in law, and subject to fairly easy reversal by another administration. Legislation reaffirming the original scope of the law would be the best solution. But since that is not in the cards in this Congress, w

、e urge the Environmental Protection Agency to turn the guidance into a formal rule that would, at least, be harder to undo. So, as a Chinese, no matter whether the anti-water pollution policy made by the US is effective or not , we should gather our thoughts to promote the quality of drinking water , purify the water in rivers and seas to give creatures in nature a better environment and balance the ecosystem.
