、 600 m (2 000 ft) used for the storage and transit of processed 35 mm motion picture film wound on cores. The cans are not intended to accommodate film on spools. Two 600 m capacity sizes are specified; the larger (Size 2) is in use internationally, and is preferable to the smaller (Size 3) which is

、 almost exclusively used in the United Kingdom for the distribution of release prints where current storage racks and transport cases are unable to accept the larger can. Information regarding the construction of this type of can is given in BS 1133, “Packaging code”, Section 10, “Metal containers”,

、 Part A, “Tins and cans”. Information regarding the dimensions of standard 35 mm cores and 35 mm motion picture film may be obtained by reference to the following British Standards: BS 5550-5.12.1, Dimensions of cores for motion-picture and magnetic film rolls. BS 4526, Dimensions of motion picture

、film Part 1: 35 mm film. Information concerning metric (SI) units is given in BS 350, “Conversion factors and tables”, and PD 5686, “The use of SI units”. This standard was confirmed in 1977. As all British Standards on cinematography are eventually to become Sections or Subsections of BS 5550, this

、 standard has been renumbered as BS 5550-3.12.1. BSI Sectional List 1, obtainable free from BSI Sales Department, catalogues the British Standards on cinematography. The latest edition of SL 1 should be referred to particularly in view of this development. A British Standard does not purport to incl

、ude all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside front cover, pages

、 i and ii, pages 1 and 2, an inside back cover and a back cover. This standard has been updated (see copyright date) and may have had amendments incorporated. This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover. Licensed Copy: sheffieldun sheffieldun, na, Mon Dec 04 13:23:17 GMT+

、 as follows: 3 Dimensions 3.1 The dimensions of cans shall be in accordance with Table 1. 3.2 The external dimensions shall include all embossing. 4 Construction 4.1 The cans shall be of metal construction, circular and seamless, and shall have a slip lid which is an easy fit over the body to form a

、 closed container. 4.2 Both lid and body may be embossed or ribbed to provide adequate strength and rigidity. The lips of the lids and bodies shall be folded to produce a “safe” edge. 4.3 The sides of both lid and body shall each have one or more protruding beads to give a fingerhold when the can is

、 being opened. 4.4 The lid shall be incapable of being fitted over the base of the body. 4.5 The lid shall be provided with a central flat area not smaller than 120 mm diameter, devoid of embossing, for receiving an adhesive label. NOTETo obviate the possibility of contradictory labelling on both pa

、rts of a can it is recommended that only the lid should be provided with this central flat area, whilst the embossed pattern on the body should discourage the fixing of labels. 5 Finish 5.1 All cans shall be protected against corrosion under normal conditions of use in temperate climates. If so spec

、ified by the purchaser, the cans shall be protected against corrosion under tropical conditions. 5.2 The materials and protective treatments used in the manufacture of the cans shall not be detrimental to the film or to any applied magnetic coating. 5.3 All cans shall be free from burrs and sharp ed
