13、icationsystemsonpublictransportvehicles.PublicTransport(PT)vehicleshaveanincreasingarrayofinformationandcommunicationssystems,includingticketmachines,AutomatedVehicleLocation(AVL)systems,destinationdisplays,passengerannouncementsystems,vehiclemonitoringsystems,etc.Othersystemsarebeginningtobeinclude

14、dsuchasadvertisingscreens,touristguides,WiFi“hotspotsandinfotainment.Inaddition,equippedPTvehiclewillusuallyhaveacommunicationsfacilitytoenablevoiceanddatatobeexchangedwiththecontrolcentre,otherPTvehicles,PTinfrastructureandroadsidedevicesforinstanceinrequestingpriorityattrafficsignals.Manytypesofco

15、mmunicationchannelareusedincludingpublicandprivatewirelesscommunicationnetworks.Thesesystemsmaybeprovidedbyanumberofdifferentsuppliersandmayneedtobeintegrated.Forinstance:一aticketmachinemayneedlocationinformationtoupdatefarestages;一next-stopanddestinationinformationmaybedrawnfromscheduleinformationh

16、eldintheticketmachine;一vehiclelocationsystemsmaybeusedtodrivesignalpriorityrequests.Asdataexchangebetweenfunctionalunitsbecomesmorewidespread,anetworkedapproachbeginstobecomeefficient.Withstandardizedunderlyingtechnology,thePTvehiclebeginstolooklikealocalareanetwork:makinguseofIEEE802communicationsa

17、ndtheInternetProtocol(IP)suite.Withoutacleartechnologyframework,integratingthesesystemswouldrequirecomplextechnicaldiscussionseverytimeadeviceisprocured.TheexistingEN13149standardsrecognizedthislongagoinrespectofthecorevehiclesystems,butthesehavenotbeenadaptedtoIPnetworking.SixhistoricalpartsofEN131

18、49,namelyParts1to6,havenowbeenwithdrawninfavourofthenewIPbasedapproach.ThecoreofthisnewapproachwasspecifiedintwoTechnicalSpecifications(TS):一CEN/TS13149-7specifiestheNetworkandSystemArchitectureforonboardequipment.Itdescribesbasicprinciplesofcommunicationsincludingageneraldescriptionofthenetworktopo

19、logy,addressesschematics,basicnetworkservices,asystemoverviewandbasicmodulearchitecture.一CEN/TS13149-8specifiesthePhysicalLayerforIP-communicationnetworksonboardPTvehicles.Thispartspecifiesthecables,connectorsandotherequipmentincludingpinassignmentandenvironmentalrequirements.Buildingonthis,aserieso

20、fspecificserviceshavebeendetailed:一CEN/TS13149-9,specifyingthestructuretobeusedbyaserviceprovidingtimedatatotheon-busnetwork;一CEN/TS13149-10,specifyingthestructuretobeusedbyaserviceprovidinglocationdatatotheon-busnetwork,specificallyrelatingtoGlobalNavigationalSatelliteSystems(GNSS);一CEN/TS13149-1sp

21、ecifyingthestructuretobeusedbyaserviceprovidingdatafromthevehicleplatformtotheon-busnetwork,usingtheFleetManagementSystem(FMS)forsourcedata.ThesedocumentsdrawonlargescaletrialsundertakenwithinEuropeanprojectssuchasEBSF(the“EuropeanBusSystemoftheFutureproject)anditssuccessors,togetherwithtechnicaldev

22、elopmentswhichhavesincebeenadoptedbyprogrammessuchastheGermanIBIS-IPplatform1and,morerecently,theEuropeanplatformITxPT2.ThishasensurednotonlythattheCENspecificationsarerobustlyprovedinpractice,butalsothattheyhavethesupportofmanykeysystemdevelopersandoperators.WiththeseTechnicalSpecifications,itwillb

23、eeasiertoachieve:一moreefficientdevelopmentofPTcomponents;一lowercost,lowerrisksandasmootheronboardintegrationofPTequipment;一moreefficientoperationandmaintenanceofonboardPTequipment;一highqualityintermodalpassengerservicesbasedonintermodalPTinformation;一integrationofnewPTservices.AsanIPbasedsolution,th

24、isdocumentdrawsonarangeofIETFRequestsforComment(RFCs),notallofwhichmaybeformalstandards.AlistofthosecitedispresentedintheBibliography.1 ScopeThispart8specifiesthephysicallayerofanonboarddatatransmissionbusbetweenthedifferentequipmentforserviceoperationsandmonitoringofthefleet.Thisappliestoequipmenti

25、nstalledonboardvehiclesthatareoperatingaspartofapublictransportnetwork,i.e.inoperationunderpublicservicecontracts.Thisequipmentincludesoperationaidsystems,automaticpassengerinformationsystems,farecollectionsystems,etc.TheuseofIEEE802.11WirelessLANcommunicationsisexcludedfromthescopeofthisTechnicalSp

26、ecification;itsuseisnotrecommendedfortheservice-basedapproachofCEN/TS13149.Equipmentdirectlyrelatedtothesafety-relatedfunctioningofthevehicle(propulsionmanagement,brakesystems,dooropeningsystems,etc.)areexcludedfromthescopeofthisTechnicalSpecificationandaredealtwithinotherstandardizationbodies.Inter
